Was at the shops today and managed to find a 1L tub of coconut oil.

How much should I start with when giving it to Archie? Can Kobi have some too?

Just, by the way, when you guys all say "1/2 a tsp" or something, do you mean a standard American teaspoon sized measure? Because the standard New Zealand sized teaspoon measure is twice as big, so I've got to do extra calculations for how much I'm giving.

Oh my gosh this brings back a posting I did a year or so ago on the fact that teaspoons are not all the same size!  All I know is I would start small and work up, so I would start with the half of the half of your teaspoon so the US size, and see how that is tolerated for awhile.  I am sure others would chime in. I only started adding the smidge size that is part of the set of measuring spoons under the products tab for mickey for coconut oil.  good luck, I think in this case more isn't always better when starting.

Both dogs ate it happily with their dinner. No issues in bed overnight, poos are looking normal this morning. (I was actually really worried last night because my sister thought Archie looked hungry last night so she gave him a bed time cookie at 9.30pm when his dinner with CREON had been at 6.30pm. I thought for sure that that was going to throw his whole system way out of whack and we were going to have screaming diarrhoea this morning, but things are looking okay so far. Fingers crossed he doesn't have a stomach upset later on.)

I'll give them 1/4 a NZ tsp again tonight.

Does New Zealand use something other than a metric teaspoon? I was really curious, so I looked up the conversion from US to metric teaspoons and this is the answer:1 US tsp = metric tsp * 1.0144. So, they're really close. I'd be interested to know how a NZ teaspoon compares....

We don't use metric teaspoons, no. Ours are roughly twice as big. It was really confusing when I was trying to sort out the powdered enzymes for Archie because I had to give him half as much as recommended. Actually, I'm not entirely sure how our cup measures compare to the US cup, either. I'll have to look into that, but I'm pretty sure that a NZ cup is different from a US/metric cup, too.

Sarah, I started the kids on a 1/4 US teaspoon of oil. I increased it 1/4 per week until I got to 1 (US) teaspoon per day for all. There was no detox effects. They love it nad are showing signs of really smooth coats and good tummies also.

There is only 10mL of difference between a NZ cup (250mL) and a US cup (240mL) so that's not too bad.

When I say I feed Archie 6 cups of TOTW per day, it means I feed him roughly 6 cups of TOTW per day for everyone and not just to people in NZ.

gosh...i swear i  learn seomthing new every day  on the forum!!!

So.... not all teaspoons around the world measure the same.... hmmmmmmmmm! Good to know!

And glad to ehar that Archie DID NOT have screaming diarrhea from the cookie.... AND that so far so good with the coconut oil.... my dogs love it too!

Olesia, owned by Izzy-35lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 8 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

In Feb 2013, Izzy developed a very serious condition called IMHA which she (thankfully) beat and is now in remission. We also discovered that now, at 8+ years old, she not only has EPI, but also Diabetes, Low Thyroid and High Cholesterol.  Izzy was able to receive excellent care because of the kindness of so many here on epi4dogs and  is currently  doing extra-ordinarily well. If anyone could spend a day with Izzy, they would never guess that she has any health problems!  Because of Izzy's concurrent conditions of Diabetes and High Cholesterol we had to make chnages to our daily EPI routine. We had to alter the fiber, type of fiber and the fat content  her diet. She now gets 1/2 Annamaet Lean kibble and 1/2 TOTW kibble with either lean pork loin meat, or chicken breast or tuna twice a day. She also receives  9 or 10 units of Vetsulin (depending on her blood glucose reading) a pork based insulin. We tried Novolin N a human synthetic RNA insulin.... but Izzy did not do well on it. And now we have to monitor her exercise.   It's been one heck of a journey... but aside from all that Izzy has gone thru with her health issues.... she continues to wake up every day full of joy and a great sense of humor!

Lili has been having about a teaspoon of coconut oil a  day for a few months now. She gets it with her Pepcid about 25 minutes before her enzymes food. She like it so much, she refused to eat her dinner the other night when I forgot to give her the coconut. Gave her the oil and bingo bango down went the cruchies! Goofy little dog!
