Deesha dog 4th ,-we are going  back to vets &will probably have a new blood report to display soon .Am going to ask about SIBO too.Deesha has gained weight on tryplase enzymes &low fat food .Weight wise she has progressed from skeleton to you can see the ribs. She still has a very rumbly tummy &poos are okay to pick up but still pale.I suspect anti biotics needed.Any suggestions?I am slowly changing her diet ,now i have found this site.[she was rumbling before the diet change].

I didn't even test for sibo. I just put Sky on the anitibiotocs. It's not going to hurt IMO

Just make sure you go to a probiotic when you are done with the antibitics.

Any other info you can share about your pup?

Hi Mac and Deesha!

Please fee free to print anything from this website and bring to your vet. And / or ask your vet to join this FORUM. Everyone one is welcome. Vets bring their expertise to the community and EPI owners bring dday to day experience managing and EPI dog. Together we can really help others.  You are from England, yes???? The reason why I am asking is because in different parts of the world there are different treatments used.

Our members on the FORUM from England have shared the following with us what their vets in England prescribed for SIBO with their EPI dogs:

"Many times Synulox and Metronidazole areused together when SIBO ispresent. At a shorter duration than the 28days that Metro or Tylosin are prescribed in the US.

Stomogyl antibiotics for 14 day course

I used Metroinidazole for 14 days with Synulox for 28 days for heavy e.coli infection/SIBO

Overall veterinary community is more restrained than the United States in regards to antibiotic prescriptions"

Please do talk to your vet about SIBO... , please let him/her know that  50-70% of dogs that have EPI also have one or two secondary conditions called SIBO (gas, tummy grumbling, loose stools)  and./or B12 Deficiency (doesn't gain weight, stools not good).   We as EPI owners have found that if these secondary conditions are not aggressively and correctly treated sooner rather than later, they will interfere with the dog's improvement, even if the dog is on the proper enzymes.

And I applaud you for working on the computer and participating on the FORUM!!!!   Looking forward to hearing results about Deesha!

Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

Hi Mac,      If your Deesha is having rumbling tummy and smelly poops, and sometimes burps that come out wet.........it is probably SIBO.  If it is, and it is not treated you can bet she will stop eating for you.  So, you are very wise to get her back to the vet.  I am no expert, but I dont think SIBO will show up in blood work.  Suzie had an endiscopy in the beginning to diagnois SIBO........however, I dont recommend it.  It was terribly expensive, and probably unnecessary, as symptoms were very obvious in her.  We live and learn.

Will be awaiting an update from you.  You have come to the right place.  Help is here for you, so hang in there.

HI Mac ~

Yea, there really is not a simple blood  "test" for SIBO ... only invasive procedures...what most go on are the SIBO symptoms, especially when dealing with an EPI dog ... since many times the two go hand in hand.....
