Thank you all for your support and great input.  I've been adding tempting smelling stuff to her food and Keria is doing much better with eating.  We has two days where she ate all of her lunch and dinner and today she ate breakfact and about half of her dinner.  I'm seeing results already im her poops as well.

Most folks would think you are crazy to get excited about poops and I know you all understand.

My new concern is about the amount of water she is consuming.  Particularly at night, she's drinking a great deal to the point that she's beginning to have accidents in the house.  I assumed that the enzymes might be burning her mouth and that was why she was drinking so much but her mouth looks ok and now I wondering if there is some other problem.  We do have an appointment with the Vet tomorrow night for another B12 shot but while she diagnosed Keira fairly quickly, I really don't know how much experience she has with EPI dogs.

Has anyone else experienced increased thrist with enzymes?

Thanks for your input.

Has anyone else found increased thrist as a result of the enzymes?

Hi Pat and Keira,

We are new to EPI and I am wondering about the thirst also?  I have noticed an increase in thirst in Sophie but thought it was due to EPI in some way.  She has not had accidents in the house though.

I am also wondering about my vet.  I know she does not have much experience with EPI so I don't know if I should look for another???   Let me know what the vet says!!

Hi Pat and Katy.

Lots of us find the dog drinks more since EPI and it usually gets better with time.

The enzymes do have a lot to do with it that is why many of us add water to soak the kibble really well and pre-digest for 30 or more minutes to work the enzymes out.

For instance even with a long preparation and pre-digest my Razzy drinks quite a bit after a meal... if I use Lypex (Creon) type enzymes she drinks less because they digest INSIDE the dog so there is no stinging in the mouth or throat.

I expect others will come in on this because its quite a common thing.

Yeah, the drinking water thing is pretty normal - although can be a bit alarming (I've had a Cushionoid dog), but generally tappers off...That said, Tara does drink more water than my other dogs and always will I think... The accidents in the house should go away.

Forgot to mention this...We are ALL excited about poop here!!! I swear, my neighbors must think we're nuts (thank doG for the 8 foot stockade fence that separates "them" from "us"), but a good poo means things are working!!! When Tara was first dx'd, it was winter and dark in the evening...I got a miner's helmet with a light and either hubby or I would follow Tara in dark while the other waited with baited breath for the outcome...Our signal to one another was "touchdown" for good or "fumble" for bad. The "touchdown" meant a happy poop dance was imminent!!!  Our neigbors now give us a wide berth when coming in contact with us....

Unless you've walked a mile in and EPI parent''s shoe, you wouldn't get it and heck, who cares!!!:D

Ha Donna... I've heard some poop stories in the three years Razzy has been EPI and the miners helmet is a classic.

Someone else planted suveyers poles by the poop so she could get them when the sun came up... couldn't scoop in pjs and wellies holding a torch.

We STILL have to discuss every poop after 3 years and our friends are REAL friends because they shoot in and say...Razzy has done a GOOD one... do you want to inspect it before we scoop it up?

Our sons shake their heads and smile and the grandkids look at their parents as though they are wondering if they will grow old like us and go a bit odd in the head dept.

Hi Pat and Keira!

Gosh, i was away for onloy two days and missed SO much...

So.... Welcome to our family, but sorry you have to be here.....but please know we will share your tears and frustration and yet make you smile!!

Yes,many EPI dogs, when first starting on enzymes do drink more water, but this should eventually go away.... and YEAH!!! on the good poops....it's all about "the poop"

Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.
