We had her put to sleep this morning. Her quality of life deteriorated. She was 15 which I guess is old for a lab. She was my wife's best friend when her first marriage left her alone. I met Molly when she was 5 and she latched on to me right away. I don't think Sky and Buddy have noticed yet taht she didn't come home with us. I will miss her. This is how I'll remember her. She loved this chair.

He presented symptoms at 8.5 weeks, predominately a voracious appetite. One month later, Barnum started to regurgitate his food due to pica (not eating stools). Barnum's diet was changed to Raw Meaty Bones on 6/1/2010. He now receives 4 BioCase V capsules twice a day and 1000 mg Salmon Oil once a day. Barnum's gone 30 days without an owl pellet.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Fifteen years sounds like a long time, but we never have these sweet babies with us long enough. I know your heart is breaking and while there's very little I can say that will help you and your wife at this time, please remember always that Molly was a special gift and not only where you guys her world, she knew how much she was loved. The picture of her in the chair, tells a great deal...she was a beautiful girl who was happy in her world. Keep the special times in your heart.

No more aches or pain to mark each day, No more keeping the mark of time at bay O'er the bridge and down the lane you will find So many waiting to greet you of your kind Run free, run fast Molly dear You will never be forgotten never fear written for Molly by Debra Don, I'm sorry to hear your sad news. I do remember you posting about Christmas time that you felt the time was coming, you at least had another couple of months with her. The picture is beautiful and one I am sure you will treasure. It must surely be one of the most difficult decisions to make but one that is made from love and kindness and the ultimate gift you can give to a lifetime companion.

yesterday was a non stop day of crying. yes I bawled like a little girl.
I lost it when I was getting their food ready and there were 2 bowls and not three.
I can't get her last moments out of my head. She yellepd when her heartstopped and my wife yelled at the vet asking why she was crying. her eyes looking at me as she passed.......I left the room at that point. I couldn't take it.
I went back in and my wife was covering Molly with the blanket they laid her on. she covered her and tucked her in. I don't ever want to see my wife cry like that again.

Don...The tears you both shed were the most natural expression of the love you had for Molly.... I am an oldie and have seen the passing of more dogs than I want to count... I can (and have) faced a charging bullock... had my wrist broken by a bolshi billy goat... broke up fights between 100 lb sheps... and seen gypsies off my land with a shot gun.. so I'm not any sort of crybaby... but I have sobbed my heart out for every dog that passed in my arms. To have done less would have devalued the love I had for them. So let the tears flow, my friend... then put the memories in your heart and in time they will bring sweet if slightly bitter smiles for the good days you spent with that very special creature who put her paws round your heart. Don, As you know I lost my dear Bonnie last year after only 2 short years with her and I didn't think I would get over those last moments. I too covered her and tucked her in, cuddled her and stayed with her a while. They haunted me every day but I have to say those last moments as raw as they are do fade with time and I am glad that I was there with her at the end, we looked each in the eyes. I miss her every day still, I look at where she laid, where her lead hung and still shed a tear. After a while you will remember the years you spent with Molly and those last few moments will recede. 15 years is a long time to share and you and you wife were truly blessed to have had all those years with Molly.... but its always too short isn't it. You are both in my prayers and I hope as time goes by things will feel easier for you.

I want to thank you all for your well wishes and thoughts. It has not been easy. for me the mornings are hard because I'm the one who gets up and feeds the dogs after my wife has gone to work. I do think Sky is having a difficult time. She has stopped eating her normal 2 cups in the morning and only eats about a cup. At night she attempts to eat her normal 2 1.2 cups but ends up leaving some of it. She is doing fine in training and remains focused. Maybe because that is her and my thing? Buddy....his behaviour has changed a little. He is more affectionate and now when my wife takes he and Sky for a walk in the morning, he will pee right on the spot after Sky pee's. I'm wondering if that is more of a male trying to protect the female by covering her scent? I don't know. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it. We will get Molly's ashes this week. The plan is to spread them on the sound on hatteras Island, since that is where my wife grew up and we have always gone for vacation and Molly loved swimming in it. I washed and hid her bowl from my wife. Her collar is still in my car. I threw her bed out. Just rying to get rid of the reminders I guess. Its not easy. I still have Molly fur in my car from that last trip to the vet. I'll vacuum at some point. And slobber on the windows because she got so excited to be in the car.......almost like she knew it was her last trip. For the past 2 years I had to pick her up to get her in and out of the car. Sucked when I had my Xterra, not so bad with my GTI. I guess in time we will get over her, but never forget her. I still keep telling myself we did the right thing. I just can't believe myself. Thank you for all of your thoughts with us. That;s what makes this a special forum.
