This is Sadie and she has come to live with me in her forever home.............

She is a Sable 14 month old girl and was in kennels at the RSPCA in Hampshire.  I found her on the German Shepherd Rescue site on Monday, she had literally just been posted. The next day I arranged with them to go and see her on Wednesday.  How could we not bring her home?  So after a 3 hour journey back she arrived at her forever home.  Mum and I are thrilled.  She is an absolute darling, bouncy, full of fun and so so loving and affectionate, everything a young German Shepherd is.

I was so devastated when I lost Bonnie last September, I lost a piece of my heart.  I didn't think I could have another German Shepherd but slowly I started to want another but this time to offer a home to one in rescue, her life was so cruelly cut short but I loved her so much and wanted to give another dog who didn't get such a good start a home........sort of trying to redress the balance?

I can't believe how lucky we have been because she has just fitted in....Miss Snippy (Bridie) has even let her sit next to her, albeit for about three minutes and Chloe (who is wonderful with any dog) has just accepted her although a bit miffed she keeps trying to mount her!!

Sadie was due to be spayed on Friday but I said I'd rather have her home and get her settled first and then have it done, she's had too much stress already, losing her home, being in kennels for a month etc... but it looks as if it may be a little sooner than we thought as its not fair on her.  Miss Snippy has had some advances however one look from her is enough.

Late yesterday evening, after she'd investigated her new home

She's had a busy day today, first we went for a little walk then she went to visit the vet for a health check and was so good during the exam, and she laid down whilst we chatted, we then went and had some retail therapy and went to Pets at Home supermarket where she picked out a bone and some treats........but something went wrong as I carried the basket!!  She got lots of attention from people in the queue at the checkout.  She loves children and gave a big lick to a little girl who snuck up behind me before I could stop her.

....and then it all caught up with her and it was time for a well earned nap.

I've been helping out at a local dog club for some weeks now, although being asked 'where's your dog'!

So she will be going there tomorrow night to make some friends.  She just about sits, but thats it, bit excited on the lead but settles down after a while.  She doesn't really know how to play with a ball although she was quite taken with the Kong and she doesn't know what to do with the bone.  She has such potential, she is a clever young lady and I'm looking forward to helping her blossom.

Good bless you my Bonnie, you have led me to this llittle lady, I'll never forget you my sweet girl.

What a beautiful addition to your family and Lulu says she is very pretty (Sadie not Lulu, although Lulu says she is pretty too).

Beautiful girl, best wishes for long and happy bone-filled lives together!

Debra,

Ther is no doubt in my mind that Bonnie is wagging her tail and smiling down at you. She knows she brought such joy to your life that you are willing to give your heart again. What a lovely way to honor her.

Sadie is such a lucky girl and she is gorgous to boot!

Rescue Angels

Tail tucked between your legs,

Confusion in your eyes -

I know it's hard to understand

That someone heard your cries.

When loneliness is all you know

And pain is all you feel

And no one can be trusted,

And hunger's all too real...

That's the time the Lord sees you

And lets you know He's there

That's when He sends His messengers

The hearts that love and care.

Yes, rescuers are angels

You cannot see their wings,

They keep them neatly folded

As they do their caring things.

The medicine to make you well

Good food to make you strong,

And finally to help you learn

That hugs are never wrong.

The perfect place then must be found

The home where you can live

Secure and safe and happy

With joy to get and give.

When you reach your Forever Home,

Your place to feel whole,

The Angels smile, and off they go

To save another soul.

HI Everyone,

Thank you all so much for your kind words, Lynn for your fantastic card, Kathy, beautiful, beautiful poem, I can't see the screen!  Karen, you don't know how hard it was not to say anything for weeks, I so wanted to say something but didn't want to tempt fate,

Thats all I've done since Wednesday is blub every now and then....I feel fit to burst sometimes, it feels like I'm smiling inside as well as out...strange feeling!!!!!

Now what day is it???? Sunday, goodness already.  Things have been going well.

A girl from the Dog Club called me on Friday morning and asked if I wanted to come along for a walk in the forest with her GSD.  (She didn't know I'd got Sadie, I was just going to turn up there with her that night),  I arranged to meet her and surprised her with Sadie from behind a bush:o After the initial greeting they settled down, although Sadie was a bit miffed not being off lead so Kara made the most of teasing her.

At the Dog club after lots of fuss she took to it really well, she's quite confused about what to do bless her.......but one thing that she didn't have any problem with was recall,  they put her on a line and when I called her she came straight for me, :oscary.....like a big grizzly bear, they took the line off and she did it again... straight to Momma!!.   She mixed well with the other dogs, did the usual young Shepherd barking thing.

Saturday we went over the forest with the trainer and Ben her Rottie and Kara and her Mom.  Sadie was on the extended lead and she was really good, loved Ben, had a few snippy moments with Kara, some justified, some not.  One the whole she was very very well behaved.

Its getting pretty hot here (won't last for long though!) so out came the paddling pool, after about five minutes of showing her what to do, she became a real water baby, we sat there laughing and crying at her antics, snapping at the water, leaping up high to get out of the pool... sif she was scaling a 6ft fence.... so funny.  Found out what to do with the Kong...... Anyway here's a few more photos............Oh you really shouldn't have said that Olesia..............lol

'Hmm, this  quite nice'

She's good with runners going by,

not traffic shy

wants to hunt furry critters

Doesn't like arms being waved about in front of her - A runner did this and then went to stroke her, she ducked and barked at him

Doesn't like men wearing baseball caps or sunglasses... that guy won't approach her without asking first again

Is more wary of men, shy of women but then comes round quickly

Doesn't like harsh voices

Doesn't like doors closing - she panicks when I shut the patio doors (with her inside with me) also she's worried when I shut the kitchen door....again I'm there with her.... she sits down but stares at the door.

Slowly stopping trying to mount Chloe (the Westie)!!!

wasn't keen on water

Doesn't know what to do with the bone still

She must be tiring herself out, she just follows you everywhere.  She's jumped the baby gate and I found her stretched across the bathroom door when I came out.  She also jumped the gate from the yard into the garden.....Sooooooooooooo... DIY today, gotta raise them fences.
