Up until Sascha was diagnosed I exercised him all the time. When he was a pup I couldn't wear him out!  Runs, hikes, ball..you name it. When he started getting sick I stopped running him and kept him close although we continued our 1+ hour walk a day.

I waited about 2 months after he was stable,  played a light game of fling-it with the ball and he threw up!  A few days ago I tried lightly jogging and It happened again!! He seems to get worked up and gets it up, then he's fine.

He acts like he want to run, and I hate to deny him. grrrrrrr

Anyone have this problem?

When we got Butter stable and got her B12 levels up, she became the old dog that we had slowly been losing....  My first thought is the B12. My other thought is, is it foamy and just a little, or is it food and a lot???  My non-epi pup has the "yacks" every so often in the morning....  What time of the day is it you try to exercise?  Before or after meals?  Sorry the 20 questions.....

Butterbean, 6 year old chihuahua, diagnosed in May-June'10 via pancreatic biopsy (in other words, it wasn't there).  And now we have the TLI score of 0.7

hi

I would ask the same thing about how long after feeding are you excersing your pup?

the time scales I have always worked to are 1-2 hours after feeding  for a game walk otherwise you run the risk of the dreaded bloat an easy lead walk would be ok but a running jumping one no

The fist time was defiantly 2-3 hours after he ate. The second time was probably about one hour. He threw up food, not just a little liquid.

The other thing is I don't think he chews his food, just kinda wolfs it down. When it comes up I can see whole kibbles. Maybe its time for a slow feeder.

Thank you

Hi Catherine

he is gorgeous

could be he is eating too quickly try feeding from your hand we did that with Kara at the beginning as she would have eaten the plate as well

also are you soaking the kibble if not it might make a difference if you put some warm water over the food let it soak and mush it and then add enzymes etc

Hi Catherine,

I have a feeling a slow feeder might help you out! Have you tried using Pepcid AC (famotidine) or Tagamet (Cimetidine) to reduce acid reflux? Some of us have had great success with it.

Sorry to hear Sascha is having issues with food/water coming up.   Dex woofs his food down and I have been putting his kong toy in the middle of the food bowl so he has to work around it to eat - it just slows him down a bit and I keep reminding him to eat slow you will always have food.

I do soak his food with a couple tablespoons of water and a scoop of organic pumpkin, but with the enzyme for 30 minutes.  I have been giving him pepcid when he apears to have burps or integestion(vet ok'd it)

So Im thinking the slow-feed bowl might be in order. I'm already feeding him 3x a day to breaking it down a bit!

Thank you!

The slow feeder, or a large rock/ball/or kong in the food is a great idea - might even help avoid GDV (bloat) in our big chested furbabies. Maya never had the problem with exercise that you describe (also a super intense runner/player), but she eats somewhat slowly, so the air that Sascha ingests with his gulping might be the culprit.

Paula and Maya (bday 12/21/06) (diagnosed 10/26/10 TLi 1.5, B12 659 (ref:249-733), weight 52 lbs. After 30 days, retested B12/folate - B12 plummeted to 200, which greatly affected her personality. After following B12 protocol, currently giving weekly B12 shots at home. Weight on 4/24/12: 72 lbs - the picture of health.
