My EPI baby (Westie) turns one year old today.  My husband just looked at him and said,  "I can't believe it took us a year to find out what is wrong with you."  From the time we brought him home from the breeder at 2 1/2 mos he had very bulky and foul stools.  It wasn't until about 10 1/2 mos that he got the severe diarrhea and weight loss.  My vet had him diagnosed with SIBO and EPI within 2 weeks.  Today he looks nothing like the fluffy, fat little puppy I brought home.  While he was so sick, we couldn't brush him enough to keep his thick fur from matting.  We finally took him to the groomer and she did a partial shave with a weird pattern in order to leave some fur.  So, he is skin and bones with funny patches of fur on him.  My husband said that if anyone asked, we should say he was a rescue dog from someone who abused him :)

Dallas is so happy, though. He loves nothing more than to cuddle.  Well, he does like to eat more than anything.  He inhales his meals in less than a minute.  I felt sorry for him and gave him more food than the vet had recommended and he had worsening diarrhea.  I feel badly that I can't even give him a treat for his birthday--but he doesn't know the difference.

Happy Birthday Dallas!  He is such a lucky boy to have a mom and dad who went the extra mile and are taking care of his EPI!

Michele had a recipe for enzyme treats if you want to try them so he can have a special birthday treat.  They're over here: http://www.epi4dogs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/4856586-dehydrator-treats

Or you could go have some fun parktime, or extra playtime!  I'm sure he'd love that.

Proud mommy to Vito, 3(?) yr old GSD.  90lbs, goal weight 85-90lbs (ACHIEVED!).  Tested positive for EPI on March 30th, 2011.  His TLI was 1.0, Cobalamin 225, Folate 22.  Feeding 2 cups of Taste of the Wild Bison once a day with one teaspoon of Pancreatin 8x enzymes per meal.

Also proud mommy of a (non EPI) Belgian Malinois tripod named Lizzie.  That means three legs. :P  Who is completely spoiled rotten, loves kids, and will be going into therapy dog training as soon as I can afford it.

Thanks for the link.  I had to stay home this morning for a workman to come so Dallas got extra cuddle time in my chair with me as I needlepointed.  Even his tiny litte 13 # managed to wiggle to the point of taking over the chair.

Happy Birthday, Dallas!!   Just remember, if you give him extra food, you have to give him extra enzymes, too!   As he gets better, his coat will come back in nicely, too!

Thank you for all of Dallas' birthday wishes.  He couldn't have special treats but he got lots of snuggle time which seems to be his favorite thing to do outside of eating.

HAPPY BE-LATED BIRTHDAY DALLAS!!!!!!   I am so very sorry I am late in the good wishes!!!!   I'm sure the snuggles were the best part of the day......Once you get the food/enzyme combo down to a fine art, you can add in a little coconut oil.  We are giving Butter a 1/4 tsp a day and it has really helped her coat tremendously.

Butterbean, 6 year old chihuahua, diagnosed in May-June'10 via pancreatic biopsy (in other words, it wasn't there).  And now we have the TLI score of 0.7
