Hi all,

So I'm having another dilema related to having an EPI Dog. We are finally getting Mya stabilized, but she has had some accidents with diarreah on the carpet in my apartment. I've been able to get the stain out, but there is still a pretty heavy smell. I have tried arm in hammer pet spray (Spray, let it sit for 5 minutes, rub out) which I reapeated twice, I have used natures miracle (sprayed heavily, let sit for 5 minutes, reapeated 3 times), and I have rented a carpet cleaner, which helped a little, but the smell is still there. I was wondering what you all have done when your EPI dog has had a soft stool accident on your carpet, and if there is anything to get that smell out for good?!

thank you all,

-alexis

Ugh...I would have said to try the Natures Miracle - that is what I use...BUT...I was told to try vinegar and water because nothing I was using was getting the "wet dog smell" out.   I never did use the vinegar, but several people suggested it.   Personally I despise the smell of vinegar so that is why I didn't.   If you do use it - please let me know what you think!

A couple of things to try.....I've used the vinegar for stains and it has worked.  Not sure how it would work for just the smell.  Baking soda works wonders in the litter box, maybe will work for carpet smells too.

Lisa

White Vinegar

Mix a formula of one part white vinegar and two parts water and pour within the affected portion of the carpeting. Allow the vinegar to set into this spot for 4-8 hours before returning to blot dry the location. The windows within the room can be opened to epedite the drying process of the remaining moisture.

Baking Soda

Develop a mixture of one part baking soda with six parts water and pour on the location of the accident. Allow for the baking soda formula to set in and absorb the odor for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to blot dry the majority of the moisture from the carpeting.

Hi

Kara was going every hour at one point so heres my advice

WHITE vinegar mixed with cold water in a spray bottle spray all over your stain and leave it for 15 minutes with an old towel over it

soak up the damp bit with the towel and and put another towel or cloth or whatever over that and get as much damp out, let it dry and then sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the spot I think it is baking powder in the States but that does have other bits added to it leave that for a while and vacuum up

There is no smell to white vinegar once its out of its container and used

if you find it hard to find try Chinese supermarket they use it all the time in cooking and costs almost nothing, for a 5 litre container here it is about £2.00 so whatever that is in dollars

I go through one every other month and almost no other cleaners and it is perfect for cat trays, as you know cats are allergic to just about every household cleaner and antiseptic

I use it everywhere in a spray, countertor tops, floors, fridges glass with a drop of lemon added etc and its amazing for getting perspitation marks out of clothes, and for red wine marks and grass stains its far better than some of the commercial stuff and as a dishwasher detergent its fab, sorry to go on

have a look at this

My cleaning tip for the day is over and I hope that it works for you I got very excited when I first found it several years ago

I think Stars Mum was typing at the same time

Something that just came to me as I read this post is what about cat litter with Charcoal in it?  Charcoal absorbs odors. Put it on the carpet and leave it for a while.  We had the same problem but we had area rugs so we just threw them out or took them outside and hosed them down with Tide and let them sit in the sun.

One story....  we have ben trying to sell our house for 2.5 years. (still for sale) One day I received a call for a showing. I had everything cleaned and ready to go and our beloved Dutch did a diarrhea about 45 minutes before we had to leave.  I was FRANTIC.  I did everything I could to get rid of the smell but... The showing happened but the people could not stay in the house because of the smell.  I tried to tell them it was a sick dog and did not normally smell but...  Needless to say that was about a 2 years ago.

Good luck

hi

that is a good idea but you need to get rid of the 'proteins from either sick or the other way  so vinegar should work and then maybe the charcoal

i found this from a tv show here which doesnt use commercial items and to my amazement it works

Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

I too cannot stand the smell of vinegar. I am so glad to have found a wonderful cleaner called Eco- 88 at my vet's office. I can tell you, this stuff works. If it's organic, it's gone. Not only does it get poop & urine smell out, recently, one of our other dogs vomited straight blood out on the beige carpet & it sat there for probably 30 minutes before I found it in my closet. The Eco-88 took every bit of the stain out.

Although I bought it from my vet's office, I have seen it online, I think at Amazon. It's not cheap, but it works. It comes in a spray bottle and a gallon. We swear by it, and with 5 dogs & a cat, we buy two bottles at a time and always keep it in the cleaning cabinet.:)

Yep I like using white vinegar too but Rob swears it smells and coughs and splutters.... I use it when he is out and leave the door open for a spell. I clean most everything with white vinegar and water .... and polish all surfaces with olive oil and a dash of perfumed oil... love it!
