Luciano, Joe and my first cat passed away sometime between 11:30 and 5 am.  He is already greatly missed by Joe, myself, but most of all Noni who quickly became his best friend and stayed by his side until yesterday morning when she left him so he could be at peace. Lukie liked people and cats, but he LOVED our dogs.  He was estimated to be 13, but now I think he may have been a few years older.  He was adopted in 2002 and almost got me kicked out of my apartment for peaking out the kitchen window! ( I was not supposed to have pets).  He was a very gentle quiet boy and fell sick within the past week.  Eva and Mia don't really understand yet, and that is for the best.  We are so sad to have lost him and will bury him later today. Here are some pictures of Luke...

Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

So sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like he was a wonderful cat, and very loved by your entire family.

--

Trish and Ryker, GSD, will be 3 years old December 2012. We're making tiny changes now, and seem to be doing better. I'm aiming for a combination diet of grain-free kibble and cooked homemade, since he can't seem to tolerate raw at this time.

Right now his meals are made by cracking 3 large or 4 medium eggs in his bowl (no shells) and "cooking" them by pouring boiling water over. To this I add 1-1/2 cups of chicken leg quarters including bone (no skin) pressure cooked at least 1-1/2 hours to soften bone, all fat skimmed. He sometimes gets a little broth (fat skimmed), but I found he can't tolerate more than 1/2 cup.  I also add 1-1/2 cups steamed white potato, skin included, cut into small pieces. I've been re-introducing grain-free kibble (Nature's Domain turkey and sweet potato) gradually -- he currently gets 1/2 cup. I add warm/hot water if needed to bring to room temperature, then add currently 1 tsp. 8x enzymes from Diane, and incubate 30 minutes. He gets 1 capsule vit. B with intrisic factors added after incubation, once per day. He gets 1/4 tsp + about 1/16 tsp Tylan added twice a day after incubation.

I put a summary of his background on my “About me.”

Oh Nicole - I am so sorry to hear this for yourwhole family - I can tell he was very loved.     Tell Mia and Eva that Jackie and Dex are very sorry about Luke...those sweet little angels.    Animals grieve just like humans - you may see Noni, Kain and Angel out of sorts looking for their friend - special hugs to all of them also.

Thanks everyone. Noni has been hiding all day. I started to get worried so the girls and I searched and searched, finally I found her. I told them now that we know she is ok, let her come out on her own.  She is very depressed. I feel so sorry for her and we need to pay special attention to her.  I cleaned and cleaned the whole basement today and Angel who loves the shopvac, and loves to bite the attahment stood at the top of the steps and cried, but wouldn't come down. I turned the vac off and her legs were shaking, she wanted to come down but was scared. Kain, as expected, at least so far is unphased. I am worried about them though.  We are going to bury Lukie when Joe comes home, which should be soon.  I miss the little guy so much, the last few days were some of the worst in my life. I looked through all his old pictures and couldn't control myself. Until, the girls asked "who is that guy?" and I told them, that is daddy. They didn't believe me! Then I actually laughed.

I'm so sorry for your families loss Nicole.  The void Luke leaves will be huge, and I wish that wasn't so painful, but it is a testament to the love that was shared.

Nicole, so sorry to hear about Luke. I hope the girls and the rest of the family is doing ok. It is so hard when they leave us. Our lives are better for having our pets in them, but it makes it so hard when it is their time. Especially since he was your first cat, lots of memories there. Remember the great times and what a good friend he was, and let those help you get through the sad times.

When my last cat died, I SWORE that was it, I wasn't getting any more, it was just too hard. But this little voice in my head kept telling me 'but now you have room to give someone else a home that needs one'.....I fought it for about a week, I didn't want anyone to think I was just 'replacing' my guy that was gone but.......then ended up with TWO more cats from a rescue. And so it goes with pet people. :) (I am NOT telling you to add more to your already full plate, just passing along my story).

What a beautiful cat, and from what you've said, a beautiful soul.  Sounds like he had a great life, and only a short period of illness, which is a blessing. Keeping all of you in my thoughts as you mourn the loss of your friend.
