this is only my opinion but
since EPI is the failure of an organ within the body tthen the holistic approach although very laudible does not get to the bottom line you really need the antibiotics to get rid of the bugs that hang around in the gut due to the slower passage of food caused by this crap illness
I am with Olesia regarding Tyllan we use it every day and it is mild and effective and it can be used very long term
there is a lot to learn but once you get the hang of it it becomes normal and that happens quite quickly

Vickie, All I know about colloidal silver is that my sister-in-law has used it in the past, I believe it was for Lyme disease. She swore by it at the time, but she keeps getting bitten by more ticks (she's apparently a tick magnet) and Lyme symptoms keep coming up again and again. Now she uses the traditional antibiotics, so she must have decided at one point that the colloidal silver wasn't do as much as she needed and she really needed to fight with something stronger (traditional AB's).

-- Mom to Pixie, 7 year old sheltie, inherited from my mother-in-law 3/11. Dx of EPI 9/09. TLI in 10/09 was 0.4 ug/L. As of 12/2/11, Folate fasting levels was 13.6 ug/L, and Cobalamin fasting was 615. Current weight 21.7 lbs (4/13), solid member of the Chunky Monkey Club! Ideal weight around 17, I think, but she's not obese at this weight, so maybe 17 is a little low. Feeding grain free - Natural Balance canned lamb and Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient Lamb kibble. Giving slightly less than 1/2 tsp Pancreatin 8X per 1/2 cup of food. Tylan currently 1x/day. Also takes 1/2 tablet pepcid for stomach upset 2x/day. Primal Defense probiotics 1/8 tsp, 3x/week. Getting bi-weekly B-12 shots. Our little pack also includes my husband, our 12 year old sheltie, Lucy, and our 9 year old sheltie, Einstein.

Hi Vickie and welcome to you and Hank. I know very little about colloidal silver but it can interfere with some medications so I just wanted to mention it. Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine, quinolone, tetracycline and thyroxine medications. Brent A. Bauer, M.D Mayo Clinic Internist

Thanks for your insight and for this wonderful list. It is the best detailed and organized with the "warmest" members I've experienced. I know we can get through this and get Hank healthly and this list has been a serious assett to us. It is so nice to be able to communicate with people who understand what you are going through. I saw a short documentary once on the Spanish water dogs that are the mascots for San Fransisco's baseball team. I want to say a Preist is their caretaker. It was very interesting. They are beautiful web pawed creatures! We go to the vet today and will hopefully get the SIBo figured out soon. Hank reacts well to my 4B elixir (bye bye bad bacteria) honey, colloidal silver, garlic, vinegar and tumeri but I will consider te antibiotic too to get him well asap. How is Rico? Have a lovely weekend.

Hello Vickie~ With an EPI dog with low B12, the first choice is to give generic parental (injection) B12 injections..... what we like to suggest is start the dog on the B12 injections and then once they come up to acceptable levels, then you can try maintaining with B12 with intrinsic factor pills.... as a general rule, regular B12 that do not have the intrinsic factor included in them do not work. I personally use Wonderlabs "Trinfac" 120 pills at $14.99. I use these for all my dogs (they are all older dogs) more as a maintenance program per the advice of my vet....but then again, my EPI dog did not have any B12 deficiency when we began our EPI journey (but my non EPI dog does have a B12 issue and these have worked great with her) ..... Anyway, please work with your vet with this to determine the right dosage for Hank.

-- Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

Hi Vicki I use the same product as Olesia but as my posting says i had the shots to start with and then moved on to these basically because Mariyln another forum memeber posted some good results so iam saying that i would have used them earlier if i had known about them as well as the shots.. I used 2 a day to start with but i am now down to one i trialled it for 5 weeks and Maddie held her levels.. Another member Leah has be doing this prorotcol and should be posting her B12 results this weekend. Maddie weight gain went hand in hand with the B12 LEVELS a year to the day to day we started this journey she lost 1/3 of her body weight and now a year today she is back to pre-dx weight. can you let me know what pre-pro you use i will see how it compares to mine. I will put maddies sibo tretament up on your thread over the weekend it took 6 months but we cracked it and only 30 days on antibotics. If you get chance read this thread.http://www.epi4dogs.com/sabresjourney.htm Ann
