Becky & Devika,

I think you both missed the point,  goals for an EPI owner is to STABLIZE and FINDING A FOOD that doesn't tip the scale of being stable.  I realize it is a tough job.  But, what do you do when the manufacture of the food:

A. Pulls the brand from the market because of the economy or goes bankrupt.

B. Recalls the food because of contamination.

C. Your supplier no longer carries that brand.

At this point in time I personally have two kibbles that can be used WITHOUT any problems in a change.  BUT, the problem with that is both brands are produced by the same parent company.  So if the parent company went bankrupt and quit producing both brands, I back to square one with Ayasha.

Every EPI owner needs to have five goals

1. Get stable

2. Able to use multiple brands and different parent companies.

3. Find multiple suppliers.

4. Be prepared, backsliding is always around the corner.

5. Keep looking for an alternative.

Might want to add to #2 on that list.... that are not sub-contracted out for manufacture at the same plant.... or sourcing their ingredients from the same supplier

Becky,  your correct.  Some people are going to have problems with trying to accomplish the five goals just because where they live.  But somehow we each need to prepare for the possibility of losing our existing food source.  What is the old Boy Scout motto, "Be Prepared".

Frank -

Yup...  we should try to be prepared as best we can... but sometimes I think it's kinda like with flying a small single engine plane... you can have annual safety maintenance done on the engine, always fly at high altitudes and be constantly scanning for safe landing areas should your engine quit... But at some point you just gotta have faith... so I like a combo motto of "be prepared" and "a wing and a prayer" :)

Mahi, the Indian EPI dog, diagnosed at 10 months, now 3 years old. Was 60 (28 kgs) lbs, went down to 46 lbs (19 kgs), but now with YOUR help, on 29th July 2012 touched 66 lbs(30 kgs). Fed 3 times a day - homecooked diet of 1 kg potatoes, 70 gms lentils, 150 gms tapioca, squash, beetroot, carrots mashed together, 2 boiled eggs and 500 ml yoghurt. 1 Salmon Omega 3 tablet given per day. 1 tablet of Creon 25K given 20 mins before every meal. Very, very active - knock on wood, and seems to have gone from a level 10 of "hungry" to maybe an 8. On 27th July 2011, officially downgraded "hungry" level to 7. On 29th July 2012, officially downgraded "hungry" level to 6!!

Oh golly gosh, more drama over here, I can't leave this place for a minute ;)

OK, so in Oz I use a great little company called pawsforlife.com.au for regular deliveries of our Canidae grain free. I've dropped them a line about the recall in case they didn't know yet as the last delivery of a 13.6kg bag we got a couple of weeks ago had an October 2012 use by date. With luck none of the affected batches left for Oz or if they did they're still in transit and dilligent distributers and/or the manufacturers will intercept them.

So far so good but what do we have left available? Well a little over a year ago we only had one 'choice' - Artemis Maximal Grain Free and that's still available thankfully. We also have Earthborn Holistic Coastal Catch Grain Free and EVO Turkey & Chicken Formula plus some expensive new Zealands ones. And of course there is still stock on non-contaminated Canidae, TOTW etc etc here. Unfortunately our US cousins get it all first :(

So there are choices but I can't imagine how much shipping a 14kg bag of dog food would be from here to India!  :o Happy to help in any way I can though. I have been in touch with most dstributors at some time or other so can probably get a bunch of sample bags together if that helps.

And Devika, don't be put off by the recall should it come back in stock locally, I'd be very keen to know how Mahi takes to the reintroduction of a grain free protein rich kibble with you back in the zone...

Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

Lol - yup drama all round.

Thanks Craig - I'll look into it but sister is thinking the same thing you are - will be too expensive to ship and what if those we ship get hitched to the recall bandwagon? The supplier here says we should see new stock come in by May end and that he is still trying to reroute some other bags to me. Let's see.
