No B12 needs to be mid to high bottom is 250 he neds to be 600+ for an EPI dog.

Maddie was 140 weekly shots for 6 weeks at least but it took 5 months for her levels to go to 600.

Talk to your vet about starting Alfie on B12 injections ASAP.  Feel free to print the B12 page  http://www.epi4dogs.com/b12.htm and use either the old or new B12 protocol from Texas A&M Gastrointestinal Lab. Make sure your vet uses generic B12 ....not the multivitamin or complex B12.... they are not potent enough and they sting.

Olesia, owned by Izzy-45lb SWD, Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.3, Stable almost 7 yrs! Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

In Feb 2013, Izzy developed a very serious condition called IMHA which she (thankfully) beat and is now in remission. We also discovered that now, at 8 years old, she not only has EPI, but also Diabetes and Low Thyroid.  Izzy was able to receive excellent care because of the kindness of so many here on epi4dogs and  is currently  doing extra-ordinarily well. If anyone could spend a day with Izzy, they would never guess that she has any health problems!

Hi

Havent tried the wafcol yet it was on my list  just looked it up as it is low fat probably quite a good idea beacsue his folate and low B12 infer SIBO and one of the recommendations for SIBO is low fat.

Glad you will be starting the injections it might be the on the floor B12 that is causing the scratching but the pirton is worth a  go.

Haa the Lypex good per meal.

What dose of metro is he on.

Also discuss with your vet using synbotics by protexin  http://www.protexin.com/products/synbiotic-d-c/33

These help re-populate the good flora which antibotics can destroy  i used them with Maddie and kept her on them after the antibotics for about 6 months and i havent had SIBO since.

Treats ---depends on  what he can tolerate.......bones are normally not tolerated well unlss they are meaty soup bones.

Maddie has carrott to crunch on anything like dog biscuits you have to make sure there is no cereal in and she doesnt tolerate the hard things like ears much i tend to get her the veg strips or some of the fish 4 dogs products but she will eat her kibble any way as a treat.

Normally  we feed with in an hour of food but every dog is different.

You just need to find the right balance.

What ratio of lypex to food are you now feeding

Hi Sharon.

Good that he starts his shots on Monday some dogs recover there B12 levels quickly maddie took a good 5-6 months we need the levels to re-cover to 600+.

Once Maddie had got to this level i went on the tablets with the intrinsic factor in which i imported from the states from Wondelab which is on the b12 tab.

How is the scratching..........

Have you mentioned the pre-probotics to your vet ???

Okay so grab a cup of tea and a biscuit this maybe a long story .( if you read this at night wine and chocs)

I have always lived in rural Ares and never had the privilege of main sewers the one thing or sorry two things that aren’t good for cleaning with are bleach and disinfectant because they will nock the good Bactria in my bio-degradble system out and it will stop working effectively.(I even check all my neighbours toilet cleaners !!!!)

So the same thing can happen with the digestive tract my vet calls the like of oxytet metro etc bleach sometimes it can knock the bad the ugly and the good out of the system and we need to replace the good hence why some people including me believe that we have to re-populate the dogs digestive tract after we have sent the bleach down there is also a chain of thought that if you keeping sending the bleach down and don’t re-populate the gut that SIBO may keep re-occurring.

It maybe that Alfie will just come off Metro and the SIbO may not come back but it is worth discussing with your vet.

As for the duplicate posting its like the good old says copy for me copy for files copy for the secretary copy for the master file !!!!!!! ( think that might have been my end my wireless connection was playing up must be the heat )
