Hi Wendy,

This is the hardest part.....getiing everything balanced at the beginning.  Kolby lost 4 pounds while waiting for test results.  Hang in there.

If Nitro's B12 is low, that might be another reason for the weight loss and his temper flare.   Kolby got very fearful when the B12 was low.

The tylan is very very bitter.   Kolby would not eat the food with it on, so I filled the capsules  "00" and pilled him. Just thought I would mention that in case Nitro has issues with it.

Let us know how he is doing.   Hugs to you.

Barb

Hi Wendy,

To answer your question on adding tylan to the food, I wait right before serving and mix it in well. You do not incubate meds. Hopefully, between the new food and the B12 you will see positive resuts soon.

Hi Wendy,

Some dogs are fine with the bitter taste of Tylan and others are not.

My Izzy is one of those dogs that will back away from the dish as if i am trying to poison her if i mix the Tylan in the food (and like Kathy said, no need to incubate the meds with the food either- - but DO always give Tylan just before or just after or during a meal because with some dogs, it might give them a tummy ache on an empty stomach)

SO whichever way you want to try administering the Tylan, just remember, if no resistance ... YEAH!!!  If you notice him not wanting to eat all of a sudden then don't mix the Tylan in the food.... Barb puts the Tylan powder in empty gel capsules... since my dog doesn't have any dairy issues... i just make a pouch out of cream cheese- -pour the designated amount of Tylan powder in the pouch and then seal the pouch and put it on the floor...and make the dog sit and wait...Wait... WAIT (The anticipation just kills her :D) and then when i give the command... Izzy gobbles up the cream cheese pouch with Tylan in it....just wash your hands with soap and water BEFORE you seal the pouch or else the bitter Tylan residue will stick to your fingers and transfer to the cream cheese and then they won't touch that either!

Once stable, was able to reduce enzymes to only 1/2 tsp of Enzymes with each meal, but after almost 4 years of stabilization... had to increase the amount of enzymes to 3/4 teaspoon with each meal. Feed various grain-free kibble+real meat, 6x pancreatin enzymes from EnzymeDiane. I give 1 tsp of coconut oil one day and 1 tsp salmon oil next day, and also give canned sardines packed without salt or canned herring for extra omega oils.

We woud fill capsules too Wendy. Megg never had a problem eating, she LOVED food but she would eat everything in her bowl & leave the bit that I'd put the tylan in. I would either make a little pocket or get some size 00 capsules & fill them. Think mixing it through the entire meal would change the taste somewhat but some dogs will eat it, some wont. We didn't have a capsule maker but it still didn't take long to fill them. Just a finicky job but worth it.

Good luck.

Hey with the tylan and his food this is how we are preparing it Dry kibble in to his bowl, hot water over his food to start it breaking down let sit for around 15-20mins. 5 mins before food ready we give nitro his Creon. Then mix in 1/4 teaspoon of tylan mix really well and serve straight away. So far so good with tylan flavor. He has gobbled in all up straight away. Maybe due to the weight loss, hungry and now having B12, and food ACTUALLY starting to be absorbed he dosnt care about flavor, just happy to be getting food. Currently he's still having super coat dry kibble and very small amount of wet can food, the reason for this is, keep everything the same APART from now having Tylan and B12. If his demeanor and poos start to pick up and he appears to be getting better then we can definatly put it down to low B12 and a SIBO. This may sound mean keeping him on crappy food, but we wanna see how he goes before we change food. We would also like him in himself to feel better so he may accept changed food easier. Since starting Tylan and having a B12 shot his pooing frequency seams to be dropping. 2 poos over night and one so far today. This is giving hope!! Poos are looking darker, still a little bit runny but taking and holding form.

Hopefully you'll see a big change when the B12 kicks in.  It can really affect their personality and make them more nervous and aggressive, among other things.  I hope things start to improve soon.
