About Me

I and my husband (ND) adopted Charley (mental!!) when she was about 40 days old. while we were living in India, Bangalore. We live in the UK along with Charley since Oct  2015.

We have no information on her family or her genes as we found her lost on our road one evening 2 years ago. She seems to be a mix of may be an India hound (mudhoul) and a mongrel. She is an extremely energetic,  hyper active.............full of craziness dog!

Hello All,

So happy to have found this forum online.

Charley will be 2 years in Jan 2015. She is an extremely active dog, needs lot of physical and mental exercise to manage her energy. Having said that, she has been in and out of medical issues right from her puppy days. We always assumed that she had a sensitive stomach, our vet has been involved right from the start and prescribed a strict dog diet for her.
She would be OK for a while but then end up with severe loose motions/vomiting/gurgling noise/gas etc. This time it was extremely bad as she started to loose weight (was 15kg, became 12kg) hence my vet recommended blood tests and TLI. This is how we became aware of EPI. She has been on antibiotics for 10 days and has gotten better.
The good news is our vet has some experience treating this with a GS breed.
This is Charley's first week off of the antibiotics and on Lypex, She has completely stopped vomiting, and loose motions. We give her dry dog food only, we split this into four meals a day. She gets 100 gms twice and 50gms twice...........and this has resulted in lot of water intake. Her stools seem to be lesser in quantity however they are still slightly pasty.
Apart from Lypex, our vet has recommended we give her one tablet of Pancreoflat per day and 2ml of probiotic paste (she loves this!).
We are taking one day at a time, and monitoring all her intakes......it is reassuring that there is so much info out here.
I am sure with some discipline and LOT of will, we?ll bring her back to her healthy crazy self.
By the way, this week her crazy energy has come back a bit. We would like this to continue and try as much as possible to avoid further episodes of SIBO.
