About Me

Hi everyone, Tyler is my 3rd German Shepherd. He is 7 months old, not yet been diagnosed with EPI but I'm pretty sure it is as he has all the signs and has lost weight and is down to 44 pounds. We have got the test booked for next week.

Hello Elly
Just wanted to check on you Tyler! Hope all is going well these days!
It's been awhile since I've checked in on my EPI family. Losing PD threw me off my game, but I'm back!
I've thought of Tyler over the weeks...you many have posted in a thread that I missed...but I wanted to hear from you.

It's been a few a weeks since I've had Basia weighed (doing it this weekend) I don't think we lost any weight but sure if we gained any.
Hugs to you and Tyler

Hi Debra,
Yes thanks, caught up with the forum and your information on Lypex and Tryplase. Was very informative, I have ordered the Lypex now from vetuk.
Tyler is presently on Nature Diet puppy/junior and Eukanuba puppy intestinal.

Hi Elly,

I don't know whether you've seen the forum today, but I posted some information on Lypex and Tryplase there for you.

1 x capsule per 100g is where we were with Bonnie....
Like most things its like you starting again with using enzymes....so it will be trial and error....I started them over the weekend whilst at home, so I got a better idea if poops came early or sloppy.....but to be honest she took to them really well.... I gave her 2 capsules per meal and then reduced it after a while......
If you need to give half a capsule...(bit fiddly - Val will tell you also....but once you get the hang of it.......open capsule up, making sure you hold the longer section of capsule as the holding vessell....pull up the smaller section of capsule.....all the granules will be in the longer section of capsule...now tip granules into the smaller section and fill up, that should be about half...)
I did find soaing her kibble, not too sloppy did help enormously,,,,I found that out here.....
What are you feeding Tyler now?

Hi Elly,
Good to hear from you.... Hope our boy is doing well.

I found Lypex, an enteric coated granules in capsule that you break open and sprinkle on food. (Val - Razzysmum also uses) No incubation is needed as the enteric coated granules passes by the acid/bile and only breaks down in the stomach 5/10 minutes after ingesting...so no incubating is necessary.
Bonnie had good poops too. The reason I changed from powder was that she stank like a pole cat...for six months, everyone said it would wear off....but it didn't, Mum was about to go and live in the garden shed....:-)

They come 30 capsules in a jar.....and starting dose is (dog over 10kg) 1 x capsule per meal, but you need to try and adjust where necessary. Funnily enough Bonnie had two on her Burns Chicken and Rice, but only 1 when I changed her to Burns Pork and Potatoe as it was more digestible than due to no rice....however I found she needed the rice for fibre as it made her constipated!!!!!
I got them off a medical pet site called VETUK (Fantastic service....great prices etc - check it out for all sorts... slippery elm etc) with the Lypex, if you bought two or more jars of Lypex the price went from approx 43.00 for one to 34.00..
I didnt care about the mixing and incubating of enzymes but the Lypex is faster..especially when you've got a hungry dog hahahaha.
There is another capsule called Tryplase (again you can buy from VETUK) vets sell this one...my vet didnt even know about Lypex...but then he didnt know very much!!! but thats another story.

Lypex was initially for humans with pancreatic insufficiency and it was then tested for animals and has been successful. I contacted the pharmacutical company before I started and they gave me very good advice and support...they'd email me to see how she was doing.

Anything else you need to know, dont hesitate.
I am so glad Tyler is doing well.....makes my heart feel good.
Take care Elly and look forward to speaking to you again.

What wonderful news! Ahhhh puppyhood...UGH! Basia chewed a sofa, two chairs, one ottoman, one persian rug, countless pillows and one hammock...found out about the hammock the hard way! Once she hit 2 years she didn't chew anything she wasn't supposed too....so much nicer! Just finished replacing all the furniture a couple of years ago.
Basia too has much more energy now and glad to have all happy dogs again!

Warm wishes - Give Tyler a hug for me!

Hi Shannon, so did the vet do other blood test and checks for other things then, other than EPI? And how long did it take for results to come back? Sorry so many questions. Looking forward to seeing that firm pooh!! lol.
Many Thanks Elly x

Basia just turned 7 this summer so it's rare that she has EPI at this age - Apparently it typically starts in much younger dogs. When I get back from the vet tomorrow I'll let you know all the meds and amounts. I know we have several rounds of B12 shots and antibotics for SIBO along with enzymes and change in food...UGH!
The day I get firm poop I will be posting pics for all to see :o)

Keep me posted on Tylers results
