About Me

Maya, 7 yr old GSD,  diagnosed with EPI (TLi 1.5) 10/26/10. She has always been thin and I've been worried for a while about the sheer volume of her waste. IBD was the (original, incorrect) diagnosis. Suspecting a food intolerance, Maya was already on Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato, but also on W/D - which is super high fiber (45%?). The fiber worked for a while, tightening up her stool, but then just stopped.  When I took her to the vet, found that she had lost 10 pounds over a couple of weeks. That's when she had the TLI test. Her B12 levels were fine (over 600).   After the vet mentioned EPI, I started researching and found this site. I immediately took her off the W/D. Huge improvement, but still far from perfect.

Received the enzymes (Pancrezyme) on Fri 10/29. Right away her poops got darker and firmer.

I am so happy to have found this site. What a great resource!

This kind of thing does happen and the sad thing is those *self important* people CAN be a big asset if they curb their obsessive behaviour.
For my part I don't get uptight over it and will play their game..... I am an old hand on forums and learned the tricks years ago.
It will sort itself out.

Hi Paula, thank you. I did decide to reduce the tylan today, based on the data here and on the website for the drug. I find there is so much more info here than the vet has given me. So glad I found the site. Turbo has been playing and starting to get back to his former self! We are so happy!

Hi Paula,
Max seems to have more energy today in spurts and has eaten all of his food at both meals. I'll be taking him to the vet on Monday to have him weighed, out of curiousity more than anything else.

After this first week, I'm going to try small amounts of yogurt -he LOVES yogurt. Our Vet said it should be fine, but I'll stop it if he can't tolerate it now.

My husband and I have learned so much from this site.

Thank you,
Judy Lentz

I'll try to post a picture of Max.

Thanks Paula
It seems to be doing Cassie some good and the poops have firmed up. Is it for using all the time or must it be used a week or so at a time then leave off?

Hi Paula... you said

I did put him on plant-based digestive enzymes (they contain pre- and pro-biotics) figured it couldn't hurt

Would those be the ones made by NaturVet?

I have just bought them from a UK supplier to use with Cassie. Her poops have always been all over the place. I was hoping they may help.

What a beautiful day in WNC! Two tired, hungry pups after riding on the parkway and barking at everyone and everything! Great to know someone else local. Sent you the other info to your inbox.

Thanks, Dee! Looking forward to seeing more pictures of Alpha - especially after he's put some weight on. Is he still liking the food you bought?

Thanks for your comment Paula. We are making some good progress finally. Today Miss Katrina has had two perfect poops and we have an appointment tomorrow morning for her first weekly B-12 injection. If we need continuous antibiotic treatment when the present course of metro is complete we plan to give tylan a try. The epi4dogs web site is extremely helpful--we could not have persuaded our vet to help with the B-12 treatment without the material from Epi4dogs that we shared. Thanks again for your comment.

I posted some over the weekend on the forum. There is so much to read and navigate through this site. I actually called Diane yesterday and she was so helpful to me. She gave me so much information that my vet doesn't have a clue about.

My son was crushed over the Packer game and I just keep reminding him what a great season they had. We usually go to 2 games every year and we did again this year and each time they won...I couldn't imagine being there during the Giants game.
