Re: Desperate! Help with One Question Please

I'm so glad to hear that Kona is doing better! Fingers crossed that this trend continues and that she will regain her interest in food once she is a little stronger.

Re: Desperate! Help with One Question Please

I may have misread your post, but it sounded like you are crushing the pills then just mixing them with liquid for 20 minutes. The enzymes should be incubated while mixed in with the food. It probably won't make a difference, but some dogs do better this way. The temperature should be room temp to l...

Re: Requesting helpful suggestions for my EPI Puppy

It seems like the docs are addressing most issues that are common with EPI. If the pup is still having loose stools, the first thing I would do is find out how much CREON is being given with how much food. It's possible that the CREON dose needs to be increased as some dogs need more than others. If...

Re: Best Dog Food Suggestions that work For EPI

No problem. Honestly, the only reason I recommended TOTW is because it is relatively inexpensive and I don't know of any other inexpensive foods that meet the suggestions for EPI. It wouldn't be top of my list for foods, and I don't feed it to any of my current dogs. I'll keep an eye out for other i...

Re: Best Dog Food Suggestions that work For EPI

The current thinking about DCM, not that I'm an expert...other people can probably point you to research, is that the "problem" with grain-free foods wasn't that they didn't have grain, it was that the grain was replaced by other things such as peas and that taurine (now added to most dog ...

Re: Best Dog Food Suggestions that work For EPI

You might be able to get away with a SLIGHTLY higher fiber amount, still 4% or less, if you feed a grain free food. Even though the Diamond Naturals has a low fiber amount, it still has grains. Grains can interfere with the action of the enzymes by up to 50%, depending on the dog. The Taste of the W...

Re: New member. Looking for advice

This is just personal opinion, but no, I wouldn't feed that food to Piper. Rice, oats, and barley are grains, and the fiber level is higher than recommended. What I would suggest is to choose a food that is grain free and has a maximum of 4% fiber (less is even better). Avoid peas as much as possibl...

Re: New member. Looking for advice

Sounds like a great starting point...increase the enzymes, then consider changing foods. Another thing that I haven't seen mentioned...was Piper's B12 (cobalamin) level tested? This is usually done at the same time as the TLI test for EPI. Dogs with EPI need their B12 to be towards the high end of n...

Re: New member. Looking for advice

Hello, and welcome! Piper sure is a cutie. You are in great hands with Olesia. I noticed that you are using Pantenex enzymes. The instructions on the their website and container are incorrect. Just wanted to be sure you knew that. The correct starting dose for enzymes is 1 teaspoon per cup of kibble...
