I'm thinking if Santo is "hunting", that could be a very good reason why SID is rearing it's ugly head. My Piper was famous for stealing food she shouldn't have and it most always caused issues. The gravel is scary as well because it can cause a blockage.

EPI is scary and overwhelming at first. We've all been there so don't ever think that any question you have isn't worth asking. Questions are how we learn from each other.
