Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

I sous vide (cooked in vacuumed sealed bag in a controlled hot water bath) to cook the fish so it is rather moist. I have been mixing the enzyme with the food then add a touch of warm water. I first heat the food in microwave for 30 seconds to get it to room temperature since it has been in the refr...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

I have a question for anyone who is feeding home cooked food to their dog. Whiskey is on a restricted diet of cooked white rice and tilapia. He likes the fish but the enzymes on the food turns it to mush and then he won't eat it. Do you use a different rate (1 tsp/cup) due to the light nature of the...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

Actually he is on Tylan. I got the capsules from the vet. 650 mg - 2 times a day. I will increase his enzyme a little and see what that does. What kind of improvement should I expect with the increase? Will it be darker? I did add back some slippery elm (1/8 tsp 2x/day) to help with the diarrhea, do...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

I forgot ...he is also getting a probiotic. The vet suggested Visbiome which I haven't gotten in the mail yet so I am giving him the Proviable DC that I had been giving him before until I get the new one.

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

Well Whiskey is doing well. Today is his first day completely on home made tilapia and white rice. I had been weaning him off the other food for a week now. I will be adding supplements (Balance IT® Canine-Cu, FLORA Sunflower oil, Nordic Naturals Pet Omega-3 oil) slowly over the next couple weeks. I...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

Thanks as always for your advice and support. I will pass on the article to the vet. I spoke to the nutritionist today and she will get me a meal plan next week. It looks like it will be tilapia and white rice with supplements. I will know amounts next week and send it along for you to check out the...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

Just heard back from the Cornell vet tonight. I am attaching her report and the biopsy report. As she thought the biopsy reported he has a combination of Copper Hepatopathy and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. So 6-12 months of chelating medicine to remove the copper and a home cooked diet for the IMD fo...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

He hasn't pooped anything since yesterday at 9 am and it was yellow diarrhea so I am hoping tomorrow brings a regular poop.. always the optimist! :D We are going to my local vet on Wednesday to check his stitches so he can b...

Re: Liver enzymes ALT level of 1500

Thanks for your support and well wishes for my boy! His poop started declining as soon as I stopped the supplements (probiotic, slippery elm and or changed his food to the hydrolyzed food) as the Cornell vet suggested prior to surgery. She didnt want me to start again until we knew what was going on...
