Re: Struggling with persistent SID

Just chiming in......DCM is most certainly an issue and vets are rightly worried about "grain-free".....the jury is still out regarding causation but dogs are at risk, especially large breed dogs. Here is a great journal article: https://academic.oup.com/jas/article/97/3/983/5279069?fbclid...

Re: Bloat and Preventative Gastropexy

Hi Madelon, I don't know about having a tack done with knee surgery. I think that might be a little complicated since it would be two different surgeons. As far as symptoms -- not all dogs have the "classic" symptoms. When my Great Dane bloated, she acted uncomfortable, would not lay down ...

Re: Earthborn Dog Food Question

If you are here in the US, you might try ordering from Chewy. They are really great at giving you a credit if you have any issues with the dog food. You are not required to send it back.

Re: Bloat and Preventative Gastropexy

Good Morning! I am a Great Dane owner for the past 8 years and volunteered for a Dane rescue for almost 5 years. My Dane (malabsorption, SID) bloated 2x but did not twist bc she was tacked with her spay at 18 months. She is on GasX for life. unfortunately, my big choc lab did bloat with GDV last yea...

Re: Grain free food and heart problems

Hi all, I have waded through much of the research available...not too much but there is a FB page run by vets and vet cardiologists that has all the research in one place. So, have gone through that. I am posting a link to an interview with Dr. Josh Stern one of the original researchers on the DCM G...

Re: Grain free food and heart problems

I have been reading labels for years because I have 1 lab that is allergic to poultry and my Great Dane with malabsorption is allergic to PEAS. So, in that time trying to avoid PEAS has become more and more difficult. And, with PEAS, the formulas are now including pea fiber, pea protein, pea starch,...

Re: New Non EPI Member of the Family

Hi, I have that multiple dog household.....1 Great Dane, 3 labs. I saw your question on how to get your EPI dog to eat his food in a more timely manner.....and, I thought my Dane was the slowest eater. When her SID is under control she has a great appetite but still slow. For my Dane, I use a mix-in...

Re: New Non EPI Member of the Family

I have 4 dogs: 3 labs with normal lab appetites and a Great Dane with malabsorption that gets enzymes, tylan and a whole host of other "things" in her homemade meal. I feed the Dane in my room, separate from the labs. I give her time to eat. She is super slow in eating but when she is done...

Re: Non-EPI Related Pancreatitis Question

My 8yo Great Dane had a few episodes of Pancreatitis and the last one started last year in June....she has been on a homemade diet for the past year -- very low fat. Each time I try to introduce a little oil, she vomits and loses her appetite. Vets no longer do lab work since she has been worse in t...

Re: 3 yr old Dalmatian, cant figure out whats wrong

My Dane had normal stools almost immediately when we switched her food and added enzymes. Now, as she has gotten older. she has had issues with yellow stools just this past year. For her, the only thing that works is Tylan powder.

I am sure others will chime in as the day progresses.
