Re: New to EPI and need some guidance

The B12 injections for dogs are done by members at home as a quick prick into a ‘tent’ of skin on the back, not into muscle. It shouldn’t be traumatic. The worst bit is having to go to the clinic. Anyway, tablets should work. Mouth sores.....dogs with floppy cheeks and jowls, including my springer s...

Light hearted poo thought!

This morning as I dragged my little terrier away from a pile of dog poo, I remembered how Marti and many other epi dogs started as compulsive poop eaters. I thought she just had a depraved appetite. Then I thought, dogs eat grass because they need to vomit, so can’t we also claim that they eat poo i...

Re: New to EPI and need some guidance

Well done for coping so calmly, most of us have been in tears half the time.. Your vet is very frustrating, it would be better to get the four cornerstones that Jill and Jean have described fully, all in place together. Without a test the B12 will pick up with your regime, but without an antibiotic,...

Re: New to EPI and need some guidance

Something seems odd to me. Have you had a fasting Tli test for epi . They should give you a score. I’m just asking about the poo colour. All the boxers I’ve known have had gut problems. The original yellow diarrhoea could be infection. But you’ve mentioned black, which my dog never achieved in eight...

Re: Leaking oil at a fast rate

Leaky glands do smell, and infected fluid is black.
If you are using a plant based enzyme, the pilasters in it is not strong enough to digest oils and fats. You really must use the more expensive proper ones made from pigs pancreas.

Re: New member

An amazing age for a Labrador!! Now, IF it is epi! a lot of questions, have you found the Diet section on the drop down menu on the top right hand side? It’s easy to get confused by percentages in dry v. wet foods, because of the water content being 70%. In dry food, fibre should be under 4%, and fa...

Re: Bloat and Preventative Gastropexy

Has your dog actually had bloat yet, or are you just concerned about it as a general risk factor for your breed of dog? I am not aware of epi being involved as a cause, and I’ve never heard of a dog having preventive major surgery as a precaution.

It’s so difficult. You just have to follow your instinct, don’t you, and do your best for your friend, however old they are.

Re: Poop

Don’t I know it! I had a great vet at first, he had a nervous breakdown because of new management, and left. 2nd one awful, I left. 3rd one excellent. Then he retired. 4th lot ,three different vets in the same practice, awful. I left. Marti passed away peacefully at home , at night ,by my bed. Thank...
