Re: Another Finn Update

We are currently using Stella and Chewy's Turkey Meal Mixers. Freeze dried turkey (plus other foods) that makes a broth when water is added. He likes those. My husband gave about double the amount I have been for his evening meal. He was more out of sorts last night (wanting outside or thirsty, and ...

Re: Another Finn Update

The gas isn't smelly, but he's definitely had some when he didn't before and the only thing that was different was slippery elm added, and at only 1/2 tsp or less. I'll stop that. The last couple days I've started to sprinkle some of the probiotic I got, a VERY small amount to start and that hasn't ...

Re: Another Finn Update

I've thought about hydrolyzed but he will not eat dry dog food. He will spit it out on the floor and starve himself. We've been down that road. A 140 lb dog on strictly prescription canned food is going to be very costly when his meds are already $400.00+/month (down from $800.00+ and that may incre...

Re: Another Finn Update

Fish was the first protein we thought was giving Finn a problem. He arrived from the rescue with a fish based food, and we used to give him sardines. He stopped eating the fish based food early on, especially when his stomach issues/diarrhea got worse, so we switched him to a chicken based dog food....

Re: Another Finn Update

Thanks. The receptionist at our vet says he's a Rags to Riches story because of what he's been through. If he is, he's our Riches to Rags story because he's been such an expensive family member. Without eating beef over the weekend there hasn't been any head shaking or need for Reactine. Yah! So loo...

Re: Another Finn Update

Thanks everyone, really appreciate it. He got us up in the middle of the night shaking his head again, about 7 hours after he ate beef, carrots and sweet potato. I think the head shaking is starting to affect his hearing a bit, like it did in the fall, even though he's not nearly doing it as much as...

Re: Another Finn Update

Back from our latest vet app't. We are getting a culture done on today's urine sample to see if everything has cleared up. He's still good as far as leaking urine. A little bit of wetness on the floor last night but not much. Going to watch that closely because it appears the problem all along was a...

Re: Another Finn Update

Thanks Olesia and Jill, that is helpful. My husband and I discussed the same thing. What if this was UTI related all along, with negative tests. We feel terrible we let it go through the month of Dec because we were busy and thought it was sphincter related. Seems like a big coincidence that he's re...

Re: Another Finn Update

Yes, we tried it for a week. It seemed to put him off his food and he lost weight. After a week we had to get a bladder ultrasound to see if his bladder was emptying fully on that med and the Internist didn't think it was, so switched him to bethanechol (a drug that contracts the bladder). Said he m...

Re: Another Finn Update

The zeniquin seemed to be part of the problem, because since finishing it his appetite improved. He even vomited a couple times near the end of the course. One morning he threw up after eating some bamboo leaves in the backyard (he only seeks out grass type vegetation when he has an upset stomach), ...
