Phantom finally on Tylan!

Post by TaylorN » 06 Jan 2021, 12:25

Hello all,

Phantom finally had his vet appointment this morning with a different vet, and she finished my sentences regarding Tylan. My order from Stromberg's arrived yesterday and I got the go ahead to start dosing - yay! It is so nice to have a vet willing to listen, and better yet, she uses this site as well as epi4cats to teach/treat her EPI patients. Who knew? She has mad respect for you guys!

He has been doing well in every area but that of the poop department, and I hope this will be our missing piece. Also, he is 58lbs as of this morning! That's a 16lb weight gain since his adoption on 11/24. WOO HOO!

Feeling stoked to start this Tylan journey. Here is a before and after photo. Top is Phantom at the shelter, bottom is Phantom this morning. :)

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic weight gain and Phantom is looking good all over too!!! WAHOO!!

And double WAHOO... that you now have a vet who is on the same page as you... that is awesome (and that she also uses our website :)... that made me smile.

Just so you know that a 16 pound gain in approx a month/+ is amazing... YOU are doing such a great job with Phantom. He sure won the lottery when you decided to adopt him!!!!

Looking forward to hearing more great strides from you and Phantom!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Phantom is so handsome!!! It's hard to believe you could see his ribs through all the thick, black fur! Tucker had to have a therapeutic dose of Tylan again, recently, and as I weaned him off it, I weaned him onto proviable & slippery elm. His poo volume has decreased drastically, and said poo has never looked better. I've been dying to share this with someone! Fingers crossed Phantom has great results!---Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

WAHOOOOO!!!! Congratulations to you and your handsome boy Phantom on the weight gain!! So glad you're starting the Tylan and hoping that will be the final missing piece of the puzzle. Don't forget after the 45th day you need to slowly wean off and not stop cold turkey.

Please keep us posted!

Hi all,

It has been 6 days since we started Tylan, and here are some changes I have noticed:
- Less farting and/OR audible farts that don't smell
- No tummy gurgling and no nausea affecting the appetite
- Not perfect, but better poop

The poop is still quite voluminous. For example, he will go outside at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, and 10pm. At eight o' clock in the morning, he will poop once and then walk over and poop the same amount again. It seems to equal that of 2 dogs' poop. I work at a shelter, so I would know. Do we think this is because I am currently feeding 150% (6 cups a day) or because he is not digesting his food as well as he could? It is hard for me to imagine the food not being digested as he has gone from 42 - 58lbs in 6 weeks with me (we have not had a weight check since 1/6). Advice welcomed as I am new to all of this!

He currently eats Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach (Salmon and Rice). We tried Taste of the Wild High Prairie over a slow transition and that was a DISASTER. This is what started much of the putrid farting (and what I believe may have triggered the SID).

Here are some collages containing poop from the days leading up to pre-tylan as well as post-tylan poos.

In addition to the Tylan prescription, we also tested Phantom’s B12. I just got the call that his levels are 942 when they were 208 before diagnosis. YAY! So glad I can give him the Wonder Lab capsules and not a shot. I don’t mind needles, but I’d rather not poke my dog. :D
