Kibble Recommendations

Post by nooka.GSD » 28 Feb 2021, 15:26

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has a good kibble recommendation in Canada for my EPI German shepherd? Less than 4% fibre, no peas and something that is beef/pork/ bison as she is allergic to any bird animal and does not like salmon.

I’ve been having a hard time finding one for the EPI criteria, as many have peas.... peas should be avoided right?

So right now she is on a homemade food.

Are you able to order Sport Dog Elite? (try herding dog/ buffalo & sweet potato). Taste of the Wild? (pacific stream).

These seem to be most often recommended, and I have had success with both of them.---Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

If you can't find one without peas.... then look at some with less than 4% fiber content and if it has peas in it, make sure the peas is at least the 4th or 5th ingredient not ne of the first three. And you might want to include some fresh meat in it to... that will also help "up" the quality of a kibble with peas....

BUT.... if you see a product even with peas 4th or 5th in line in the ingredients.... but then also have pea fiber, pea flour, pea protein, or if they are also including garbanzo beans or chick peas, yadda, yadda.... stay away from it.... in short it is loaded with low quality fillers.
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........
