We started TotalZymes this evening at full dose. Gotta hope.

You’re correct. Missing gallbladder doesn’t help. Possible IBD doesn’t help. Still, aside from the extensive work up, we have Budesonide for IBD…not inclined to use it but could.

And for what it’s worth, Phoebe had some pretty good poops this afternoon. And ate all her food—except the corn kernel transit timer we tried to sneak in, then coerce into her mouth….She wouldn’t have it. And that’s her. Terrier.

Yah gotta love a terrier. We had MickeyJRT 15 years and now TJ JRT will be 6 next month. We got Kiya (aussie/heeler) when Mick was 7 and she just passed in January at 15. Never a dull moment around here!
I am glad a better poop was in there.

Phoebe is a Border Terrier (joke about this breed is Borders on Being a Terrier…totally false, BTW). We also have a JRT, Oskar, 8. He’s so hilarious. Absolutely proves how creative terriers can be.

Thank you. It all happened fairly quickly.
The combo between Kiya being a herding dog smarts with the Jack russells activity level and smarts led to a lot of fun times.

So Day 2.5 of TotalZymes. Phoebe’s appetite is great, she’s very gassy (explosive)—and had the WORST smelling gas this morning I have ever smelled. She is having mostly diarrhea Score 7, (6 once or twice a day). Body Condition 1. I rechecked the enzymes measurement and I was giving too much (duh) so I’ve fixed that. I know it may need more adjusting. I’m keeping a log.

I reread the quick guide and if I understand I should be doing 4 things at once, as necessary: enzymes, diet (I haven’t changed this…boiled chicken & rice), B-12 (I give her shots) & SID (I have Tylan but not giving it currently). I also have Slippery Elm & am not giving it currently either. Other than medications (Gabapentin, Trazadone, Cerenia, Famoditine, Thyroxine, eye drops), I give her Folate and L-Glutamine.

How long do I wait to make a change to address this even worse diarrhea?

I’m giving SQ fluids to keep her hydrated but this is concerning given her current body condition.

Phoebe is an elderly dog with Chronic Pancreatitis, so not an EPI dog…which I know what may work for her is ??

Any ideas or suggestions?

You might have said but has she had a food allergy test done? I don't get it, why she can't with out it causing this issue. I will think more on it.

I have not had food allergy or sensitivity tests done. I have come to this late and (this is morbid) but keep wondering if I’d get the results “in time.”

For proteins we’ve tried: kangaroo, cod, tilapia, chicken, lean ground beef, ground turkey breast, hydrolyzed soy, (SeaCure).

Because she is so sensitive to fats we have not tried lamb, salmon, bison, pork, venison, rabbit, or anything else that I can think of off the top of my head.

It’s been a long time since she’s had a carb other white rice. She used to eat oats with no issues. (I have some finely ground baby food oats but am worried that would aggravate her system rather than slow down the transit time.)

Amazon in the UK sell it so I imagine they will in the US

Does your dog eat a lot a grass? that can cause gas

You might want to check this out with your vet, but after Kolby had a horrific experience with bloat, we put him on a daily dose of Gas-X (yes, the one for humans) after his evening meal. Actually, our vet said we could give it to him after each meal, but for him the evening meal was sufficient. It worked like a charm. You can buy it in any drug store over the counter. It is Gas-X Extra Strength Simethicone 125 mg soft gels. 1 pill per dose.

Hi Jean, No, she doesn’t eat grass.

Last night was one of or the WORST nights ever for Phoebe. The gas in her abdomen felt like rising bread dough. So we syringed some activated charcoal into her mouth. What I didn’t know until today when talking with a breeder is that syringing will cause the charcoal to go down but the dog will regurgitate the water, which is exactly what happened. After the charcoal things began to calm down, slowly.
