I had a long post typed out, then deliberately deleted it. Both myself and a friend of mine have had pancreatitis. I deleted my post because I'm not sure how relevant my information about two humans, neither of whom has EPI, would be. If you are interested in our experiences and my thoughts about them, feel free to send me a message.

Hi Everyone,

I just got the results of Bailey’s B12 and folate tests back. His folate was normal but his B12 was 2000. I’m not supplementing his B12 at this time so I’m confused about the B12 levels. Has anyone else run into having B12 at these levels? I thought excess B12 was peed out of the system so I don’t know how his is so high.

I always thought that with trypsin, I didn't need to control the amount of fat, but after reading the answer above, pancreatitis needs a low-fat diet, while taking trypsin?

Hi Alex, trypsin is one of the enzymes responsible for protein.
Lipase is responsible for the fat digestion. If your pup has pancreatitis you most definitely need to restrict fat.
Even though a pet is on porcine digestive enzymes, the lipase does not much as far as reducing pain the pancreatitis dog feels.
Epi dogs don't need to restrict fat.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi Jill, thank you for your help. I have learned new knowledge. Before that, I thought pancreatitis was an early symptom of EPI, so I could treat EPI without limiting the amount of fat. Lipase alone was enough to improve pancreatitis. It turns out that my previous view was wrong. Thank you for correcting my mistake.
I need to control the amount of fat in the food. This is really important, thank you!

Ok thanks. There are a lot of dogs with chronic pancreatitis that don't head down the Epi path.
