EPI Alert Tag/Collar
EPI Alert Tag/Collar
I am a 'newbie' to EPI and my EPI puppy does not arrive until mid-January; however, events over the weekend got me to thinking about an EPI Tag/Collar.
We had a 'visitor', a beautiful golden retriever showed up at our property, very hot, tired and thirsty; obviously, we took him in and gave him a drink. Pre-EPI, I would have automatically also offered him something to eat; however, decided against that because who knows? Fortunately, after 6 hours, we were able to reunite him with his owners!
So, I got to thinking, even though he will not be in the garden unsupervised and I have puppified the fences, what if Ziggy and I got separated? Would someone finding him think they are doing the right thing by offering him food?
Does anyone use a special collar or tag alerting to their fur-baby having EPI? If yes, I was wondering what you went with with regards to wording?

Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
I got a tag for Clyde. The front just has his name. The back has "needs medication", "do not feed", and my phone number. I haven't done a collar yet, but I have been thinking about getting one that says, "Do not feed me." That's my first choice, but I'll be watching here to see if anyone has an idea that I like better.

Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
I had a custom tag made for Tucker. Just order one that is large enough to say something like DO NOT FEED, Has EPI, Call a Vet. That one fits right on his collar, and his tag that has our information hangs from the loop.
Such a scary thought.__Pam
Such a scary thought.__Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.
Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
Thank you!
I am going to hold-off on the collar for a while I think, Ziggy being a growing puppy; however, I do like Pam's suggestion on the tag which I can move to multiple collars, 'DO NOT FEED' and the 'Has EPI' and 'Call a Vet'. We only have one local vet surgery but the Has EPI would be helpful for any vet that he may be taken to.
Of course, Ziggy is also microchipped but I will put his name and my phone number on one side of the tag.
It might also be an idea, if using a harness, to have DO NOT FEED embroidered clearly on that.
It is wonderful that there is such a great team of experienced people who can bounce ideas! Thanks again!

Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
I think a dog tag would be such a great idea! I actually was considering getting Harmony one as she has a new trick now of literally climbing the chain link fence and escaping. She has done it 5 times and thankfully hasn't gotten further than our busy road where I was actually almost home from school and could grab her out of the road. Very scary to find her in the road but so glad I could grab her before she got to far or worse got hit by a car. I was on Etsy and came across a dog tag that says "Do Not Feed, I have EPI". On the back you can add info of your choice whether that be your vets info, enzyme requirements, your address and phone number, ect. Here is the link:

Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
This is Montgomery's tag. Homes Alive made it for him. He travels everywhere with me and it gives me some peace of mind. The other side has his contact information on it, though he still wears his kitten tag as well. Because he meets so many people, its started some conversations about EPI, which is pretty neat.
Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.

Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
it is a legal requirement to have a collar with name and telephone no on your dog as well as being micro chipped in the UK
have a look around and see what fits in with your requierments on the internet
you could also consider a hi vis vest of some sort

Re: EPI Alert Tag/Collar
Thank you all for the input!
I had already ordered Ziggy's tag before reading that EPI had some available.
I went with his name and my phone number on one side and on the other:
DO NOT FEED
Has EPI
Please take to a vet
