Regression?
Regression?
My Mal, Savanna has been on enzymes for the last two years. She was diagnosed at about 1 with epi. We have been managing it pretty well but she recently has regressed in the poop department to very soft, cow patty type poop. She is on 90% canned food with some kibble. I did try a different food brand and I thought maybe that had something to do with it but she has been back on her normal food for about 2 weeks and i cant get get a normal poop. She is feeling fine so I havent taken her to the vet but im wondering if I should or if there is something else I can try.
Re: Regression?
Do you give a B12 supplement or have you recently had B12 checked? Also a case of SID can cause the poop to go south.

Re: Regression?
Hi there. I'm so sorry you're having a set back. I'm wondering the same as Jill, do you supplement B12 and if so what do you give and how often? Could she have got into something? Sometimes as dogs age they require a wee bit more enzymes. So if you're already supplementing B12 and you don't think she's gotten into anything, I might try tweaking the enzymes a bit - maybe an 1/8tsp.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

Re: Regression?
Jill and Madelon gave you great suggestions.... could be insufficient B12.... or not enough enzymes..... sometimes they change the food formula a tiny bit and that can throw our pups into a tail spin...... or, as mentioned.... it could be that your pup got into something so what you can try is upping the enzyme a pinch.... see if that improves things......just remember to always try only 1 thing at a time- -assess over a few days before trying another change.
If neither of the above makes any difference.... then i would approach this as uncontrolled SID and either "try" treating with a prebiotic first (Slippery Elm powder) .... or talk to your vet about treating with an antibiotic (Tylan)

Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Re: Regression?
How old is your pup? I had to increase enzymes by about 1/4 tsp per cup of food as my girl aged. Some of her symptoms were returning, and I had changed nothing else. Once i increased enzymes, she stabilized again.
I'm also going to jump on the B12 wagon, as low B12 can affect them in so many ways.

Riley is a 10 year old Labradoodle. She was diagnosed with EPI in 2014.
She currently eats Taste of the Wild, I cup in the morning, 2 cups in the evening, each meal with 1 Wonderlabs B12 sprinkled over her dinner. Enzymes are EnzymeDiane, 1 tsp per cup of food, mixed in home made bone broth. No other supplements or meds at this time.
Riley currently weighs about 44 pounds, which is pretty heavy for her.

Re: Regression?
I also agree with everyone here. My Stewie's poop starting to go south, she started acting sick again, and she had been stable for almost a year before. I asked the same question, received the same advice, and with the slight increase in enzymes and additional B12 (wonderlabs), she returned to normal, gained more weight and is a happy old dog again. Hope that's the case for you too. Good luck.
Stewie was diagnosed in November 2017. She was a healthy 13 year old black chihuahua until July 2017 when she started losing weight, along with all the other horrible symptoms. She went from over 8 lbs. to 4.9 just before diagnosis. She was on metronidazole until she got sick from it.. Tylosin saved the day. She currently eats turkey & barley Science Diet 2x a day, 1/2 cup each feeding, with 1/2 tsp Enzyme Diane and a wonderlabs B12. Weighs around 6.9 lbs now.

Re: Regression?
hi there
we have had this every so often with Kara over the 8 years she has had EPI, and it has always been SIBO, and we have used very strong antibiotics, and it worked, but b12 is essential, and if the SIBO is in evidence then it will deplete the B12 however it is given
we have gone back to basics every time,
keep a journal so you know what works
could I ask you to add everything you do on your signature
