Budesonide drug

Hi Everyone,

My little EPI guy is 11 years old now and has had EPI for 9 years. He is on Tyleson, a probiotic, gabapentin, and I give him Cerenia as needed. Recently he has gotten what I call "the gurgles" 4x's in a week in a half after going 6 months without a problem, nothing has changed his diet, meds all still the same. This is when we can hear his stomach squeaking and gurgling and when he finally poo's it looks horrible like a rope. I am super cautious about him eating foods he finds or somebody coming over who drops food I monitor everyone and everything the best I can. I have been through it all with him and I consider myself an expert with this disease but I can always learn more. I am reaching out to all of you because today we the vet and I decided to try him on budesonide a steroid that works on the walls of the intestines and is used in people with crones. I know his days are numbered so I have been saving this as a last resort. Has anyone ever used this drug with their EPI dogs? My dog as a puppy was thrown out of a car in front of us and had beaten horribly he was 9 months and at 2 yrs old he got EPI. IDK if his pancreas was damaged from a beating or if it was genetic Ill never know but his enzymes are less than 0.01. I could use some advice or support in anyone who knows anything about this drug. Thank you to all of you. This is a difficult disease and we are all in this together

Hi Adrianne, are you still feeding Grady the Royal Canin low fat gastro? I am wondering if it is the grain in it. Also as our pups age sometimes you need to up the dose of enzymes per meal. Are you using 1 teaspoon enzyme per cup of food? If so you might try increasing by 1/8 teaspoon .
As far as Budesonide I have only read about it and the fact that it works in the gut. If you do start the drug hold off on increasing the enzymes. Only make 1 change at a time and see how that goes. Hopefully someone here has used it.
