Cooked Pork and ripe Apricot is good for EPI Dogs?

Post by pinglukol » 18 Nov 2018, 12:09

To my all dear friends,

We are going thru roller coaster journey with our loving Pinglu. She is stable now. But her weight is not gaining. She is a EPI girl for the last 2 and half years. This time we want to change her food.
Do you please suggest me whether Cooked Pork and ripe Apricot is good for EPI Dogs?

Thanks in advance
Samir of Pinglu :D
Hi, we are Samir & Papia. Our Pinglu is a pure Indian , born on 12 January, 2010. She had gained 23 kg. and was diagnosed with EPI in August, 2016. Then the lowest weight came to 13 kg. She is under food and medicine management of boiled chicken, potato, pumpkin with curd as probiotic and Pancreatin capsules, Tylene, vit. B12 shot as medicine.

Hi Samir,

Cooked pork is very good for a dog... just be sure to trim the fat..... i personally give my dogs loin pork.... it is a lean meat and healthy.

Regarding the apricots..... the Apricots themselves are okay (rich in many nutrients and vitamins).... BUT the seed, leaves, pit, and stems of the apricot plant all contain cyanide which is a highly toxic substance and very dangerous for the dog..... can you give something different? How about something like yams... or let me know what kind of tuber plants/roots you have available there... do you have the Cassava root??
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Thank you Olesia for your valuable suggestions. I will try cooked pork with as minimum as possible fat. I think in our slaughter house, Australian variety pork is available. :)

The following tuber plants/roots are available here like carrot, sweet potato ( which I used for feed her when available ) , radish, beet root, potato ( which I used for feed her when available etc. Cassava root also cultivated in India but I have to check the availability in Kolkata.
Tapioca is available online in the form of chips or powder. Is it good as a food for Pinglu?
Regards
Samir
