Hello

Anyone have a dog that does not tolerate the Tylan. Zack gets a pinch twice a day but we are thinking that some of his spit ups are related to the Tylan. He also doesn’t go for his food if we put Tylan in it so we have been adding it to his homemade treats. Can’t say there is a direct relationship between a spit up and Tylan dose.

Also anyone notice a temporary loss of appetite after vaccines such as Lyme vaccine or kennel cough vaccine

Thanks
Kathy Crocker, Cape Cod, MA, USA, Zack is a 6 year old, 10 lb., Pomeranian dx on Nov 6,2018 with TLI of 2.5 after month of yellow cow patty stool. Lost one pound. Stool converted to normal immediately, main issue gastric reflux. Currently on Royal Canin wet food with bits of kibble, ProcreaPlusPowder, Tylan pinch 2xday, B12 injection monthly, weening off compounded Omeprazole. Also receives twice daily Phenobarbital for history of seizures.

I do know that the Tylan is very bitter. Some dogs do ok with it in their food but a lot of members put it in gel caps so the dog won't taste it. I did with Mickey.

I think the vaccinations could cause a temporary appetite issue(this has not happened to me) but if it lasts I would call the vet.

Maybe the cause is the Tylan in the food?
My name is Jill and we live on the Hood Canal in Washington State. We currently have 2 Jack russells, TJ is 8 and Sadie is 2.

Mickey and his pancreatitis brought me to Epi4dogs.com site in 2012 to help manage it.
He lived from 6/99 - 8/2014

Mickey, Jack Russell. Chronic Pancreatitis. Dianes enzymes, 1/8t 3x/day with meals.

As Jill said Tylan is bitter and a lot of dogs don't like it. You could put it in gel caps or put it in a dollop of cream cheese. Unfortunately vaccines can have ill side effects sometimes. If your dog never had a problem before then I would think it's the Tylan but as Jill suggested I would call the vet if it continues. I separate vaccines by a few weeks so that they are not given all at once - not sure if it makes a difference or not but makes me think it's easier on their system.

I used to work Romeo's dose of tylan in a tiny bit of pill pocket and wrap that bit inside another piece...worked wonders and he never knew what it was. It helps if you have a little treat to wash it down.
Suzy - Greatful for finding this forum and meeting such nice and helpful people.

Romeo, DOB 04/23/2004- healthy weight 11.1 pounds (I should say overweight); EPI weight 5.8 Pounds :(..Currently 7.2 :)

11/18/13 results: TLI: 1.3 (5-35), diagnostic for EPI. Folate 17.2 (6.5-11.5). (Consistent with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth or vitamin supplementation). Cobalamin 458 (249-733)

Pepcid AC, 2.5 mg as needed

Update 11/2/2016 started using Creon 10,000. Update 1/7/2017...the Creon is working. Gained almost a pound in one month! Keeping fingers crossed :)

Hi. We stopped Zack’s Tylan over a month now and haven’t seen any adverse effects on his stool. He didn’t want it in his food, nor with pill pockets and he is too small for capsules. Weight stable. The only adverse event now is small spit ups, ie gastric reflex and big burps after he eats (he eats his wet food very fast). Spit ups aren’t daily and much less than earlier in his regime. Slippery elm had no effect when we tried it in early months of his treatment but wonder if it’s worth another try. We could try Tylan again, having it compounded but not sure that’s worth that expensive. He is so stable now I hate to upset the Apple cart. Any thoughts.

Some folks use Pepcid or Zantac for the burps or acid reflux. You might ask your vet about trying it.

My Pom would have wet burps and it stopped completely as soon as I changed his food. Do you think his tummy doesn't agree with what he's eating? If your Pom is as sensitive as mine, feeding a limited ingredient diet works best. Just a thought.
