Hi Jean,
We are giving her 1/2 tsp of tylan powder 3 times a day with food, and she's about 41. 5 kilograms right now. We haven't asked the vet yet as we only realized this was a problem yesterday, but she actually had very similar symptoms once years ago, way before she had epi problems. That time we took her to the vet and did xrays and nothing was found, she just started pooping normal again. Except for that one time she never had difficulty pooping. This started happening about 2 weeks after we started on the enzymes.

Tylan should only be given twice daily 8 hours apart and you shold be giving 3/8ths teaspoon, per twice a day, with meals, obviously you can feed more often than that

see chart

I dont KNOW this but too much Tylan might be affecting her gut, she is much the same size as my Kara, but we live and learn

Just keep your diary and let us know

its not easy and tweaking is the word

Hi Jean,

Sorry I was confused, we feed her half of 1/4 tsp each meal and for some reason I thought that was 1/2, so we are actually feed her 1/8 tsp per meal. This morning she still pooped very little :(. We are just going to take her to the vet tomorrow and see what they say.

that makes sense

however, its 3/8 ths teaspoon twice a day, so its just under 1/2 teaspoon, again, this might be causing issues, my girl is a lifer on Tylan, she is on so little, its not measurable, but needs be

Good luck with the vets , let us know

Tylan is very forgiving...... so you can give a little more than what is recommended..... just do not over-do.
However... it sounds like you are under-dosing at 1/8 tsp with meals

Just a FYI........ as Jean alluded to, usually Tylan is recommended twice a day with food.....breakfast and dinner...... however....in some very difficult cases (really bad SID)..... some vets will suggest taking the total daily dose and dividing it into 3 parts, 1 part with breakfast , 1 part with lunch and 1 part with dinner...

at your dog's weight, 41+ kg...... the Tylan dose (if needed) should be 3/8 of a tsp , as Jean suggested.

Glad you will be bringing your dog to the vet...... from what you are saying it sounds like this may be constipation and Tylan may not be needed.... and/or... your dog might be dealing with another gastro issue, like IBD, IBS, etc..........

What you might want to ask the vet is if you should continue with the Tylan.... or stop the Tylan antibiotic and instead, give a prebiotic like Slippery Elm powder (which is used for diarrhea and constipation)... or ask your vet what other fiber (but just a little) like a tsp of canned pumpkin, or ask the vet if there is a product he would recommend to better move the bowels.

that is good advice

just an update here

when Kara was diagnosed, we had to give her the minutest amount of Tylan every time we fed her, which was 5 times a day, I had actually forgotten that, it was half of a 1/16th teaspoon ! sent by her specialist, she was a mess at diagnosis 39 pounds in weight and projectile pooing only for EPI4DOGS, and amazing vets, I would have given up, but probably not.........never give up just keep a diary and let us know what the vets say

Hey guys,
Thanks for your suggestions. The vet didn't find anything, but fortunately she started pooping normal again after the visit. We think it was maybe just diarrhea and not constipation? Because her poop does not seem dry at all. No idea why she was pooping so little though. We increased the tylan and enzyme amount to 1/4 tsp per meal now. We are still confused on what to feed her, my mom insist we feed her raw meat now, she thinks the diarrhea was the result of us feeding her kibble. But the thing is before her diarrhea, she was doing so good on kibble. When we switch to raw meat she starts pooping more and having grey colored poops. My dad thinks it's because she's never eaten raw meat until recently so she's not used to digesting them, is that possible?

raw meat is something we have never given as a meal

i am always worried as its not sterile, same with raw pancreas, but things are looking better, can I ask you to add what your daily routine is on your signature

I'm the opposite on raw..... the little bacteria in raw is usually well tolerated by dogs.... however when there is a bad batch of contaminated raw products, that is a different story.... as that is from the manufacturer not because the food is raw.

Anyway.. to answer your question below.... YES! Some dogs do great on raw.... no matter when you introduce it to them, while other do awful on raw.... it all depends on the dog.
"mom insist we feed her raw meat now, she thinks the diarrhea was the result of us feeding her kibble. But the thing is before her diarrhea, she was doing so good on kibble. If you dog is not doing well on the raw.... you can try lightly cooking it.... or try doing half kibble and half cooked/or raw.... or go back to all kibble.... but you will have to find a kibble that works....

To be honest, finding the right diet for an EPI dog is probably the hardest part of managing EPI.... best to keep records of what you try, the composition of the food and take a picture of the poop (results from that meal) do for 3-5 days..and just try different things.... but by keeping a record and looking at the results (poop pictures) you will be able to put together a picture of what types of food really agrees with your dog and what type and composition really REALLY doesn't agree with your dog.... one trick is when the volume of the poop is too large (or larger than on other foods) that means that there is way to many carbs/fiber in that particular food... so look for something with less carb/fiber content..........
