The problem with EPI is that yes there is an EPI protocol.... BUT..... too many times... the protocol has to be "tweaked" a bit to best suit each individual dog.... and this is what many vets miss...........

The 4 aspects of EPI are:
1. Enzymes with every meal (must be right kind, right dose, prepared properly)
2. B12 level must be upper mid range (once reached, then must be maintained going forward)
3. Folate score is USELESS!!!! All EPI dogs have SID (small intestinal dysbiosis) goal is to keep it in good control. Do the enzymes, right diet & b12 and if things still don't come together (loose stools, etc, still present) then the SID will need to be addressed. Pre and sometimes probiotics suggested 1st, if that doesn't improve gut flora, then Tylan(antibiotic) needed
4. Diet is very important. Just giving enzymes don't cut it... many dogs cannot handle grain once on the enzymes because the efficacy of the enzymes can be inhibited by fiber....anywhere between 0% to 50% . This is why we suggest grain free food.
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........
