Thanks for your input!
I actually thought about starting her on Tylan last night after reading everyone’s advice.

What form, liquid (over food or injections?) or powder?
Where/How do I get it?

The powder form of Tylan is what we use. It is Tylan tartarate. I believe you need a prescription.
My name is Jill and we live on the Hood Canal in Washington State. We currently have 2 Jack russells, TJ is 8 and Sadie is 2.

Mickey and his pancreatitis brought me to Epi4dogs.com site in 2012 to help manage it.
He lived from 6/99 - 8/2014

Mickey, Jack Russell. Chronic Pancreatitis. Dianes enzymes, 1/8t 3x/day with meals.

A thought just occurred to me...

Has anyone had adverse reactions when switching from B12 injections to B12 capsules, opened over top of food?

We were doing injections once a month until a month ago. Now we’re sprinkling opened capsules over her food each night.

I wonder if that could have some affect.
Thanks again!

none here

but Kara used to be off food for a day or so after b12 injection, never knew why

did you give shots yourself, if so would it be worth while going back to them and see if this helps

Jean and Madelon just stated what i was going to chime in with..... my first and foremost suggestion ... and this could very well be the underlying problem about why she is not "liking" many of the foods that you are trying right now... is that she has SID/SIBO going on. Metro is what they used to recommend and it did not (actually most often) did not work well on SID.... i strongly suggest having the vet swap out the Metronidazole for Tylan antibiotic.... if the Tylan is going to work you should see some change for the better to one degree or another (it varies from dog to dog how quickly it works) within a few days on the Tylan.

Once you see physical affirmation that the TYlan is helping (stools improving).... then... because of the bum problem.... i would first see if the itching subsides once the right antibiotic gets the SID under control..... if not, then i agree with your vet and i would go back to trying one of the true hydrolyzed foods.....simply because many "anal gland" itchies stem from food allergies, intolerances, sensitivities, etc and since you are not sure what food source is triggering it.... the easiest fix is a hydrolyzed food (prescription food like your vet recommended) and then if you want... after you assess whether it is helping or not.... THEN you can try adding only 1 food ingredient back to the meal at a time... to see what the food trigger might be. (This is one way how you can "proof" food issues)

ALSO..... if you do get to the point where you need to go back on a hydrolyzed food.... i recommend trying "Ultamino" first over the others... Ultamino is made by Royal Canin ....but it is made with cornstarch vs. full grains.... and is better liked and tolerated by a lot of our EPI dogs that have to be on prescription foods..... just ask you vet to order you the smallest bag possible to "try" so as not to waste a lot of money if it does't work out
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

your vet needs to write a script for Tylan and you can order it online . from
Chewey
Dr. Foster & Smith
Allivet Pet
Valley Vet

Just make sure it is powder, not liquid:Image

Any update on this? My dog essentially has the same symptoms and looking to see what the end diagnosis was or at least the course of treatment that may have worked.
