Re: Need some advice
to answer your diabetes question.... yes some EPI dogs do develop diabetes.... but not as often as you would expect. The only reason why we mention checking checking cor diabetes is when there is excessive drinking and peeing... Our first thought is that it is the enzymes that a newly diagnosed EPI is placed on... and the excessive drinking and peeing does subside in time..... BUT..... we have learned to not to always assume that everything is EPI related.... so when a dog continues to drink/pee excessively and quite a bit of time has gone by since they started the enzymes.... we suggest asking the vet to check for UTI's and possible Diabetes.... just in case

It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Re: Need some advice
Hi Linda. Just wanted to mention so everyone knew the amount of B12 your were giving was 1/4 of the WonderLabs pill. It might be that Pearl needs 1/2 of the WonderLabs pill for her weight BUT it could also be she is one of the few that the oral pills simply do not work right for. Once you get the B12 retested, please post the results here. If the B12 level has gone up since the last test and you've been giving 1/4 of the pill it might just be that she needs 1/2 instead of a 1/4. If the level has not gone up at all then I would definitely switch to the shots. Please remember however B12 supplementing is for life with these dogs - you just have to figure out how much supplementing your dog needs. My big boy (95lbs) requires more than what is actually recommended - he gets 2 WonderLabs pills a day. When he was first diagnosed I gave him two pills a day (my vet didn't think he needed B12 and he is a turd at the vet's office so shots were not an option for us) - well after a year of 2 pills a day I reduced to 1 pill a day - he dropped 6lbs in 2 months (it was during winter and no other changes were made) SO I went back to 2 pills a day and he gained the 6lbs back in 2 weeks. I have not tried to reduce the B12 since.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

Re: Need some advice
hi
I would agree with what Madelon has said, we still get monthly b12 injections she has 2 capsules per day of b12 from Chemeyes in UK
She cannot hold her b12 levels
just remember, its a 12 hour fasted blood test for Cobalamin, and let us know
