2nd test results

Post by Btekrony » 27 Feb 2019, 19:48

I had George tested again since he hasn't been eating well. What do you think of the results? Anything to be concerned about?

i agree.
B12 is great.

just need to see the TLI test results..........

If George is an EPI dog.... the you can ignore the Folate score and know he has SID, and then you'll have to decide if it needs to be treated or not.............

keep us posted!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

I've never seen test results with the TLI pending. Has your vet called to find out what the results were?
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

I would asssume the Tli test takes a week, whereas the the other is quick. General blood counts for everything else take a few minutes if the vet has the equipment, which they should.
Springer spaniel Marti had Epi, PLE , MMM just to confuse me. She lived till 12yrs, chubby and happy despite eight years of epi.
Capsule enzymes suited her best. B12 supplements made her into a new dog!
After a cocker with PLN kidney disease, I now have two healthy rescues, a lively, suicidal , small ginger terrier, adopted with pneumonia, and gum disease needing nearly all his teeth out, and a fluffy grey toy poodle/terrier from Greece.

Since he was diagnosed with EPI in 2018 (per your signature) I don't think the results of the cTLI will tell us anything we don't know. How are the poops? Could be his tummy is upset and Prilosec or related type drugs might help. All 3 of our dogs get Prilosec and some dogs need these type of drugs to keep their tummy happy. You might want to try that.
Currently 2 Shiloh Shepherd Pups! Two Shilohs that passed over the Rainbow Bridge.
Taiko was born 6 September 2006 and had EPI; she passed over the Rainbow Bridge 10 April 2019 NOT EPI-related.
Pharaoh born 24 November 2007 and had EPI. He passed September 2020 NOT EPI-related.
Moku born 15 April 2014 and was dx with EPI in January 2019.
Hoshi born 6 July 2019 and does not have EPI
Taiko and Pharaoh were half siblings through their sire; their sire is Moku's grandfather through his Mom. Moku and Hoshi have the same sire.
Moku uses PancreaPlus tablets and receives weekly B12 shots at home.

It may also be the food does not agree with him. A lot of EPI dogs don't do well on chicken. Just to rule out the obvious things - have you checked for mouth sores?

I haven't noticed any mouth sores. I asked a month or so ago on here about him not wanting to eat and started him on Tylosin. He is improving since I've done that. Do you think I should give him Pepcid or Prilosec daily? He still does the tummy stretches and in the morning I have to spoon feed him in the beginning to get him to eat, but then he'll finish it up on his own. Also, on the facebook forum someone posted that their dog's B12 levels were 2200, which was causing their dog anxiety. Granted George's isn't that high, but it is 1000. Do you think I should cut his dosage in half?

did you get the EPI test results yet ?

the high cabalamin

this is what Texas A M say

http://vetmed.tamu.edu/gilab/service/assays/b12folate

specifically

Cobalamin: Absorbed in the distal small intestine (specifically in the ileum). Values below the control range are often seen in patients with EPI, bacterial overgrowth in the upper small intestine, or disease affecting the distal small intestine. There is no known significance of values exceeding the control range.

the ranges are in the link
