Experience with Deramaxx?

Post by Schaller35 » 30 Apr 2019, 14:33

Hello !
My GSD is turning 11! (11, i know!) Sadly, he has arthritis and it is moving up his spine. My vet recommended Deramaxx and I was curious if anyone has had experience with this drug and their dog with EPI?

I know to check the liver enzyme levels regularly, but outside of that I haven't found much.

Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks,
Nick

I don't have any experience with Deramaxx...but I wanted to bump you up in the discussion. I'm hoping someone that does will log on soon and help you out.

Riley is a 10 year old Labradoodle. She was diagnosed with EPI in 2014.
She currently eats Taste of the Wild, I cup in the morning, 2 cups in the evening, each meal with 1 Wonderlabs B12 sprinkled over her dinner. Enzymes are EnzymeDiane, 1 tsp per cup of food, mixed in home made bone broth. No other supplements or meds at this time.
Riley currently weighs about 44 pounds, which is pretty heavy for her.

never used it

but

https://www.honestpaws.com/blogs/medication/deramaxx

it talks here that its like ibuprophen which can be lethal to dogs

https://www.certapet.com/ibuprofen-for- ... _Ibuprofen

and the fact they have to have a liver scan would make me concerned

My vet a very long time ago,. almost had a heart attack when I told him my first Shep had been given ibuprophen by a previous vet, he immediately did a full blood panel

have you considered Green lipped mussel high strength, and turmeric, its meant to be good for any orthopaedic issues, and, if possible, aqua therapy the green lipped is a good one

Metacam we have tried and its fine

as is Cartrophen

http://www.cartrophen.com/for-vets/safety-and-efficacy/

does your dog have EPI ?

my girl has DM sadly, and we give one paracaetomol twice daily, no aspirin

Sorry i have never heard of it, i used Metcam with Maddie for some reason it upset her poops if i gave it in the morning but it was fine if i dosed it at night.
Maddie DX April 2011 along with low B12 she was feed with a low fibre food below 3% , fat was not restricted ( she wasnt good on pea based foods ) She initially had a course of B12 shots weekly over a period of 6 months and then we used the B12 pills from Chemeyes in the UK . We used Panzym and slowly had to increase the dose as she aged when she was first DX she was 23kg but she gained weight quickly and got back to 33 kg .
Maddie gained her angel wings in Jan 2018 at the age of 10 to a condition unrelated to EPI.

Hi. I used Metacam for about a week with Mickey. He startrd to vomit so had to stop its use. It is an NSAID , so it says monitor if any liver or kidney issues. He had liver issues.

Just spoke to a lady whose dog had arthritis and EPi and this is what she said:

Maya got several things leading up to her needing the new NSAID Galliprant. Green Lipped mussel powder, salmon oil, Duralactin, Dasuquin. (The last three were continued when on the Galliprant.) She also received acupuncture every two weeks.

Someone else has recommended Canine System Saver and GlycoFlex 3 ( note this dog doesnt have EPI) but with all new things start slowly and increase the dose.

Hope these suggestions may help.
