Hi
I was just wondering how much dry food we should be giving our 6yr old GS....we feed him james wellbeloved.....we have been feeding Zak 700g per day, the suggested amount is 500g but he is still losing weight. He has lost 2kg in the last few weeks, our vet has suggested increasing his food by 5% as he is currently suffering with acid....many thanks.

Maddie DX April 2011 along with low B12 she was feed with a low fibre food below 3% , fat was not restricted ( she wasnt good on pea based foods ) She initially had a course of B12 shots weekly over a period of 6 months and then we used the B12 pills from Chemeyes in the UK . We used Panzym and slowly had to increase the dose as she aged when she was first DX she was 23kg but she gained weight quickly and got back to 33 kg .
Maddie gained her angel wings in Jan 2018 at the age of 10 to a condition unrelated to EPI.[/color]

Hi Elaine
long time no hear
are you still using Panzym, I know you said it made Zak weird last time you posted, and I think you said no antibiotics at some point, and acid was an issue
we used Ranitadine 1 tablet 30 mins before food, and I would up the food more than 5%, any rumbling tum ?
you know where I am if you need to talk

Thanks Jean
He has been on Panzym since we spoke and has been great.... also changing his food was best thing ever.....vets gave him Zantac last night, told us to up his food and to weigh him in 4 weeks or so and hopefully he wont keep losing weight...his poo can be really soft in the morning but then fine late afternoon....will see how he goes with more food...

Re: How much dry food to give.
thats good news Elaine
Zantac is Ranitadine, and you can buy them at Wilko's, Home Bargain etc. for a fraction of what the vets charge, they are around £1.00 for 12, try 30 mins before food, it worked for us
i am so pleased the food worked for you, and the Panzym
good luck
let us know

Re: How much dry food to give.
Hi! We recommend feeding 150% of the food for the weight your dog SHOULD be - not the weight your dog is. So if your dog should be 95lbs and only weights 75lbs - look at the recommended feeding for 95lbs - if you're looking at the right recommended dose at 500grams then 150% would be 750grams not 700 grams. Even that 50grams at each meal can help to gain the weight. Are you supplementing B12? B12 is critical in properly managing EPI.

DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
