Hi Danielle,
Glad to hear you have a diagnosis, although I am sure it is not the one you wanted. At least you know what you are dealing with now and that it is manageable.

Many (I would say most) dogs do not need a Prescription Food. As Jean said, it produced havoc in her Kara. That being said, my own dog did not stabilize until we gave him the Prescription Diet. We went through many foods and we did not want to go to Prescription. But that is what finally worked. We saw first hand that each dog is different.

Yes, make sure that the B12 your pup is given is the generic cobalamin and not any of the B complexes. They will not work. Many of us eventually go to the Wonderlabs pills with Intrinsic Factor if our dogs have to have maintenance B12.

I loved your description of Daisey's food jealousy. These dogs are hilarious.

Ask any questions that come to mind.

I’m impressed that you worked the diagnosis out for yourself, vets everywhere don’t have epi on their radar. I hope that the vet will have time to do as much homework as you, and that you can work amicably together. It makes it so much easier when you don’t have to be on guard!
My motto was to Keep it simple, don’t try too much at once . The crucial job for now is to regain weight and vitality. It will become routine.
Springer spaniel Marti had Epi, PLE , MMM just to confuse me. She lived till 12yrs, chubby and happy despite eight years of epi.
Capsule enzymes suited her best. B12 supplements made her into a new dog!
After a cocker with PLN kidney disease, I now have two healthy rescues, a lively, suicidal , small ginger terrier, adopted with pneumonia, and gum disease needing nearly all his teeth out, and a fluffy grey toy poodle/terrier from Greece.
