We all worry for sure with all our pets. I had a jack russell who had an inherited problem from birth. I had to test his urine daily and give medicine to manage it. He was 12 when he got pancreatitis and passed away in 2015. I became a member here in 2012 to help manage his chronic pancreatitis with enzymes and have learned so much here. I managed him for so long I was lost when he passed. Just keep asking questions here, follow the 4 cornerstones to get your pup on course(enzymes, diet, antibiotics and B12) and tweak as necessary.
Thanks for the update.
My name is Jill and we live on the Hood Canal in Washington State. We currently have 2 Jack russells, TJ is 8 and Sadie is 2.

Mickey and his pancreatitis brought me to Epi4dogs.com site in 2012 to help manage it.
He lived from 6/99 - 8/2014

Mickey, Jack Russell. Chronic Pancreatitis. Dianes enzymes, 1/8t 3x/day with meals.

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments and wonderful advice. We are going to explore the B12 as Oakley is not on anything for this.
Jean... you were just incredible. A fountain of knowledge and understood exactly how I felt. I went & cried on Scott (Oakley’s Daddy) as it felt such a relief to know we’re not alone in this. Thank you!!
Oakley has been good & stable all day & as per Jean’s recommendation he cannot get enough of potato & scrambled egg!
This is our gentle boy... Oakley x

Oakley is ADORABLE! Thank you Jean SO MUCH for reaching out personally - it helps so much when first diagnosed to know that you're not alone on this journey. Naomi we are all here to help so lean on us whenever you need but I'm so glad you and Jean talked personally :)
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

Hi Naomi,

So glad you had the opportunity to speak with Jean directly..... she is wonderful and a life-line to so many dealing with EPI !!!!
And sometimes it makes all the difference in the world just to be able to have a "live" chat with someone.
BTW, Oakley is GORGEOUS! Thanks for posting his picture!

And Jean... thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for going above and beyond ... as you so often do ........ to help others. You truly are a treasure!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

well that made me tear up, thank you all

I remember well the day I got Kara diagnosed, to be honest, it was a relief which was short lived

where does one start ?

in 2010, there was no one selling grain free, and then I found one outlet, Royal Canin went straight through her

we were given Lypex, which didnt work with the direction of one per meal, she was on 5 per meal 5 times a day

we changed to Panzym and the rest is history, and my vets are very open to Tylan

we were referred to Liverpool University Small Animal Hospital under the wonderful care of Alex German and his team, what a guy, anway, we had joined EPI4DOGS, and this was my introduction to life with EPI

https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/sath/about- ... ex-german/

THIS IS HIM NOW

https://www.waltham.com/news-events/nut ... sity/5271/

With Alex's insistence we were given Tylan, and antibiotics, and met up with Val from Teford by phone

this was my introduction to helping anyone who was as lost as we were

so you are so welcome Naomi

I have made so many , now VERY close friends through a dog, one, I have spent holidays with

the team at EPI4DOGS is phenomenal

anyway thets my soap box for today

love to all

What good reading! I prefer the pic of A.G. as a young man though...

Many UK vets are reluctant to use tylan, it is listed for agricultural use, calves and chickens. You may have to sign a disclaimer for responsibility to get it. My vet gave us cheaper B12 injections by getting the agricultural bottle to keep in his fridge, rather than individual vials. If you have to end up paying for yourself as a lifetime insurance condition, it’s worth a thought. Otherwise Chemeyes are great for everything (epi dog owner’s company).
You’re going to find that having an epi dog a course in self assertiveness. I used to believe everything I was told. Children and dogs changed that!
Springer spaniel Marti had Epi, PLE , MMM just to confuse me. She lived till 12yrs, chubby and happy despite eight years of epi.
Capsule enzymes suited her best. B12 supplements made her into a new dog!
After a cocker with PLN kidney disease, I now have two healthy rescues, a lively, suicidal , small ginger terrier, adopted with pneumonia, and gum disease needing nearly all his teeth out, and a fluffy grey toy poodle/terrier from Greece.

What a stunner Oakley is! So glad you were able to connect with Jean. It means so much to have someone who understands this condition and what it takes to stabilize your pup to listen and offer suggestions. I remember when Kolby was first diagnosed 9 and 1/2 years ago right around his 1st birthday. He weighed 54 pounds, had diarrhea, and wouldn't eat any food with enzymes on it. I did not know what I what I was going to do. I had just discovered the Forum by accident, and was pouring my heart out at 2 a.m. , not really expecting any response from anyone at that hour--and low and behold, when I woke up at 6 a.m. there were 7 responses from people giving me suggestions and telling me to hang in there, Kolby would be OK. I will never forget how grateful I felt. A wonderful village to discover!
