I got the TLI results and I am confused!

Post by cebanasd » 28 Aug 2019, 12:07

Hello,

We have managed to travel 500km away from home to make TLI testing and other investigations that we can't do in Moldova.

Image

I got the TLI results, I am confused, from the results it's concluded that he doesn't have EPI, but he had a couple of symptoms:
  1. he is losing weight
  2. he had "score 3 or 4" from Nestle Purina poop score that improves when I add enzymes
  3. he had bad breath that also disappears when I add enzymes
  4. he is constantly hungry even after feeding, in this situation adding enzymes didn't helped
  5. he had undigested fats in poop
Can be the TLI results wrong because he had enzymes added to his food, maybe 2-3 days before the blood test?

Any pieces of advice on what should be my next steps in the investigation are greatly appreciated, as my veterinarian does not know what to do next.

Other conditions symptoms can mimic Epi. Like IBS(intestinal bowel syndrome. Is that test on the sheet above the Tli result the test for pancreatitis?
My name is Jill and we live on the Hood Canal in Washington State. We currently have 2 Jack russells, TJ is 8 and Sadie is 2.

Mickey and his pancreatitis brought me to Epi4dogs.com site in 2012 to help manage it.
He lived from 6/99 - 8/2014

Mickey, Jack Russell. Chronic Pancreatitis. Dianes enzymes, 1/8t 3x/day with meals.

IBS was excluded after Ultrasonography. Yes, another test is ELISA (pancreatic elastase) that is negative.

Other preliminary diagnostics that give us veterinarian from Bucharest EPI was: food intolerance and gallbladder dyskinesia.

Did they say he would be better off having the gall bladder removed? Mickey was on Ursodiol for thinning the bile.

.Do you have any hydrolyzed diets where you are? Here is an example:

No indications to remove the gall bladder, the blood work is very fine. Yes, we have that type of food, but I am not feeding processed food, just on wholefoods home-cooked diet.

I mentioned the Royal Canin Ultamino as you mentioned food intolerance. This food would be part of food elimination trials.

Hi. No the enzymes added to the food a few days before would not alter the test results. Was your dog fasted at least 12hrs before the test? If your dog was fasted, with the TLI at 15 but displaying symptoms of EPI, I would keep using enzymes if you saw improvement with them and have the test done again. My boy was tested at 3mos old and his TLI was 16 - he was fine for 10mos but then after displaying symptoms of EPI, he was tested again at 13mos old and his TLI was less than .4. It takes time for the pancreas to atrophy so when the test was done it could be the pancreas is still functioning normal but could be headed towards EPI.

Another thing to consider is food sensitivities.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
