Lyra is loosing weight fast. F word!

Post by Paulag » 30 Aug 2019, 07:08

Hello,
Switched Lyras food to grain free N&D Chicken. I can’t get her diarrhea to stop. I am lost at what to do. Went and bought salmon blend from Natures Domain Kirkland yesterday as maybe it’s the chicken fat or pumpkin in the N&D. The only thing I can see is that it’s chicken and not chicken meal compared to the other food. Minus the grains in the Horizen Adult complete..
. I’m switching cold turkey as at this point I have nothing to loose. She already has nasty poop.
Currently; two Creon 10000 per two cups of food three times a day. 1/4 tsp Tylan twice a day. We are on week three. Half tsp Slippery elm per meal. I am seeing bones again and she is rapidly loosing weight.
Creon; started 4 weeks ago. Was getting a somewhat good poo until I switched to grain free food very slowly. A week of loose poop leads me to believe this food isn’t working at all for her. I honestly am lost at what to do and where to start. I wait 10 minutes after giving her the Creon. I wet the good a little to soften it. I add Tylan per meal and b12 once a day.
This is a nightmare!

I would go back to her old food and if she is having that much diarrhea take her in for fluids. And keep up the B12 protocol.

Have you talked to the vet?

i looked at the Costco food and it seems ok except, a fair bit of peas

chicken and chicken/poultry fat does not go down well with our dogs

are you giving ANYTHING without enzymes

for now, I would go on scrambled egg and mashed potato for a few days and see if it clears up

I haven’t spoken to the vet yet. I’ve lost total faith.
I haven’t fed her as much as a cookie.
I am struggling with her since she started Creon. It’s so up and down.

Hey, Pam here, and a novice, but I remember one of the veterans saying slippery elm shouldn't be given at the same time as meds, because of possible absorption issues. Best luck.
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

we never could use Slippery elm unfortunately, but its a great success story with others

I think you need an enzyme

1/ that works

2/ you can tolerate

The only other thing I can think of, is, to find a chemist/pharmacy that would put the oruginal powder into capsules for you, I think thay are called Compounding chemists, you can then give the capsule whole, before food

I really feel for you, my friend Brenda wore a gas mask !

but from what you say you are far more reactive
