Tylan Dosage

Post by Tuckaboo Pam » 10 Sep 2019, 16:37

Tucker is my now 65-pound shepherd mix, in very good shape. He takes Diane's Enzymes, wonderlab B12, and Tylan. Per the vet's instructions, I had weaned him down to 1/8 teaspoon of Tylan, 2X day. He still had 4-6 poos per day, which were able to be picked up but were by no means firm. On a whim, I decided to increase the Tylan to 1/4 teaspoon 2X day. Immediately, the poo is smaller & more dense. What does this tell me?---Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

I would Leave him on the higher dose for a round and see if you can rid of the SID. Don't know if it needs to be 45 days or not.

Jill, should I increase it even a tad more after a week @ 1/4 t 2X day? His poo has never been perfect.

How long was he on the 1/4 t twice a day before the vet had you lower the dose?

Hi Pam! If when you tried to reduce the Tylan things went south then I would do another round of Tylan at 1/4 tsp for 45 days then slowly try to wean off again. I would not increase the Tylan as you are at the right dose. Have you tried Slippery Elm Bark Powder? In a recent study, some dogs did better on SE and did not not to continue on antibiotics - that being said every EPI dog is different.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

Madelon & Jill---He was on the tylan 1/4 t 2X day for a good month. I think I'll stay on the increased dose of Tylan only (plus enzymes & B12) for six weeks, and then ask for more advice concerning slippery elm. Thank You!---Pam

I am new to this forum, thanks for the acceptance!
I ordered Tylosin Powder from NEPigeon Supply - and was told to follow the dosage directions on this website. The dosage directions say Tylan Dosage Chart - I'm sure this is a dumb question - but is Tylosin and Tylan the same thing?

Is it best to sprinkle the Tylosin powder just on top of the incubated food or can you stir it in?

It is bitter tasting. Some dogs don't mind it. I put the doses in gel capsules and fed that way. I got an inexpensive capsule filler from Amazon and gel caps too.
