Can you tell us whether you are supplementing your dog with B12 often when treating SIBO we need to treat both low B12 causes a dog not to eat...Slippery Elm is 1/2 tsp per meal it can stop the efficiency of some drugs so i would tend to stop the reflucx tablet and see how it goes.

Ann
Maddie DX April 2011 along with low B12 she was feed with a low fibre food below 3% , fat was not restricted ( she wasnt good on pea based foods ) She initially had a course of B12 shots weekly over a period of 6 months and then we used the B12 pills from Chemeyes in the UK . We used Panzym and slowly had to increase the dose as she aged when she was first DX she was 23kg but she gained weight quickly and got back to 33 kg .
Maddie gained her angel wings in Jan 2018 at the age of 10 to a condition unrelated to EPI.

I would fast the pup for 8 to 12 hrs overnight and have the blood drawn for the Tli test first thing in the morning. It is the only sure way to know if you are dealing with Epi. You can usually make a vet tech appt. to draw blood. It would be nice to also B12 and folate done too.
This is just my opinion.

Hi there. Sorry I'm late to respond - I actually wrote a really long response the other night but it never posted for some reason - uuugggghhh.

Anyway, yes you can have a completely normal blood panel but have EPI because the blood test for EPI is not included in a regular blood panel. It is a specific test and your dog must be fasted for at least 8 hours and the blood should be drawn on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday so it does not sit over a weekend without proper storage. When they test for EPI (cTLI) they should also test for B12 and Folate.

It could be that your dog has EPI but it could also be that your dog has SID (small intestinal dysbiosis). We've seen lots of cases over the years where it ends up just being a nasty case of SID and not EPI. However, with that much weight loss and the stools the way they are, I would go ahead and do the cTLI test.

In the meantime, yes you can stop the antacid and use the Slippery Elm Bark Powder - be sure to mix it with a little water and then put on top of the food.

Please keep us updated on how things are going.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
