Hi Kiya, & TJ

Thank you for the birthday wishes. :)

Sadie
Sadie is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever ("Toller" for short). She eats Authority Grain Free Chicken & Pea kibble. To make sure she ingests the enzymes, we mix some No Sodium Chicken Broth and a small handful of meat - chicken, hamburger, pork - and stir it up with her dog food (she eats like a champ now!). With each meal she gets 5 scoops (1 1/4 tsp's) of Diane's Enzymes and a WonderLabs B-12 with Intrinsic factor. She gets 1 Proviable-DC probiotic per day. Diagnosed in September 2019 with EPI. She has some issues with dry skin we are dealing with now.

Good Morning Barb:

Thank you for your incredibly nice post. This is why I love EPI4Dogs.....the people here are the nicest people you can find. I am so lucky to be a part of the "family" now.

We feel that we are the fortunate ones to have Sadie. She has brought so much joy to our lives.....we can't begin to imagine life without her. Which is why I was overwhelmed when we got the diagnosis - because I thought we were going to lose her. We are so thankful that she is healthy again....and if you saw her - you wouldn't think there is a thing wrong with her.

Dogs are the greatest creature that was ever put on this earth - in my opinion. We should all have that unconditional love that they have.

Thank you, again, for your kind words and your birthday wishes to our Sadie.....they honestly mean a lot to us.

Take care.

all dogs give us joy, but EPI dogs have a special place in our hearts

give her an extra belly rub from me

I think we all know a little of how you feel, Lisa.....that our dogs are treasured gifts. They let us see the truly important parts of our lives and help us to be present with them the way they are with every moment. And if we forget, they gently remind us. I have several pictures of Kolby that I just love, of him sitting in a doorway at alert attention, his eyes focused on me.......and his ball about two feet in front of him, as if to say, "Don't forget what is really important here......" He brings his own prop just in case we might be so busy that we don't catch his meaning. LOL As if that were possible as he does it so many times a day.

It is a tribute to you that you appreciate the gift that Sadie is and the richness she shares with you.....one of the unexpected gifts of EPI.

Barb:

I loved your last post. Truer words can't be spoken. I have never met a dog I didn't like --- or love. And, I agree, they do teach us how we should treat others and the care, love and attention we give to them is so well deserved. They sure don't ask for much --- but give so much in return. They are the true meaning of unconditional love. I know what you mean about having a ball in their mouth....that's our Sadie. She is our first dog (we have had several) that loves balls. If I have to keep up at the pace I am currently at for throwing her ball --- I will likely need to have my rotator cuff repaired. :-) (We love our Chuck-It --- it's been a lifesaver for our arms).

The EPI family was our expected gift....and we definitely treasure it.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Jean!

Oh my goodness....I am so sorry to hear you have had to have spinal injections. I have had a few myself --- not fun. I hope you are feeling better.

Yes, Sadie is definitely a sassy 21 year old....she has a certain swagger when she walks. :D

You are 100% correct --- I think I love Sadie more than any other dog we have ever owned ---- because she has taught me how precious life really is as we have never had a sick pup before --- and definitely not one who was only 2 years & 10 months at the time!

I will definitely give her a big belly rub from you. She will appreciate the attention she rarely gets.

Have a great weekend. And thank you for thinking of us.

Hello All:

I have a question I would like to pose to everyone. Sadie's vet suggested that at we have the following lab work done: Cobalamin, Folate and TLI. We don't think her TLI needs to be re-tested because she obviously has EPI. We would definitely like to see where her B12 level is at. Does anyone have some advice on what lab work we should have done and what lab work isn't necessary?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Apologies for late reply

It really is up to you

We never got anything retested just watched Kares very obvious cobalamin deficiency which I made sure she got her minthly b12 injection and her daily capsules of 12

She became very reactive when it was low and vet pathetic
