Why are Peas bad???? My dog ate some.

Post by Hoosier » 18 Oct 2019, 13:01

I know my dog got into some food with peas. I mean she ate a lot of peas. I am thinking this could what is wrong with her. She just lays around. No diarrhea no vomiting but no energy. Only wants to lay around. It just hit me about the peas and after reading some of the posts on here about peas being so bad. I just though to avoid peas because of the fiber in them. Why are peas so bad? Please will someone tell me how peas can hurt a dog and how? Can it make them feel bad enough to not have any energy and not want to do anything but lay around been 2 weeks now.
I am Sheila and I am Shelby's mommy.
She is not EPI positive according to Dr. Barko from his TLI testing. But she does have a pancreas problem .
She is on 6x enzyme 1.5 tsp on each meal. She eats Forza 10 Sensitive Skin formula and gets 1.5 cups 2 x per day. She currently weighs just under 100 lbs. She takes B-12 (2)pills every other weekend. She suffers from yeast that I cannot get rid of. She gets 4 pills of antihistamine each day 2 with each meal.

Shelby left my world on November 19-2019 She will be forever missed and loved.

What can I do to help make her feel better? I have Tylan I keep on hand and I have Purina Forti Flora but I want to wait to give her that after she has completed her Keflex she is on which is another week. Is there anything to give her to help with an upset tummy if the peas is what is making her act like this?? Please tell me there is.

Hi Sheila, in the whole scheme of things, giving your dog peas is fine.
The issue of peas, lentils and pea fiber is when dog food manufacturers use peas, lentils, pea fiber, legumes as a major protein source instead of meat in their food. Those ingredients might lead to some issues.
Please read these articles :

How many peas did your dog eat? What food are you feeding? Are the above ingredients the main stay of your pup's diet?

Maybe a check up with the vet is in order.
