Hi and welcome to our EPI family!! So glad you went ahead and treated as if EPI. With a TLI that low you're almost at the definite diagnosis. I'm glad you switched foods to TOTW and got EnzymeDiane. The one thing I noticed is the B12 is good right now but without supplementing it might drop and then you will be dealing with SID (small intestinal dysbiosis) flare up and back to losing weight and loose poop. I would recommend starting your pup on the WonderLabs Pet Factor B12 pills - at her weight I would only use 1/2 capsule 1x a day - you don't need a prescription for the pills and they are made here in the USA - most of us use these pills. Keep a journal of everything you give and the resulting poop so you know what works and what doesn't.

And pat yourself on the back - well done mom!!

Mikko is doing great so far. Weight is stabile at 24lbs. I ordered the B12 and will give that as well soon. Not sure he needs it but apparently you can’t really overdose B12.

I can really tell he’s feeling better. His energy level. His playfulness with his litter mate, Ed. He leads the team on walks. He’s definitely peeing a lot, but he drinks a lot as well. Urine looks reasonably concentrated as time progresses. The stools are textbook.

Feeling like this is very manageable at this point and that as he recovers from the malnutrition associated with EPI, him immune system will continue to improve.

MIkko had his first B12 supplement yesterday (at the dose recommended by Madelon). An hour later he was running laps around the house with his litter mate.

He’s getting his breakfast boost here shortly and then he and his buddy Ed will take us for a walk.

Update:

Mikko’s response to the enzyme’s has been as good as I could have hoped. He’s put on 5-6 pounds. His energy is fully restored. He’s acting like the naughty corgi puppy that he was before this deficiency kicked in. We’ve had no problem with his desire to eat with the enzymes added but we always wait 15-20 minutes after we mixed them in his food w warm water. Also no problem with mouth sores as some report. We avoid snacks other than a kibble or 2 as a reward for being less naughty.

Mikko also suffered some hair loss around his eyes when this all started. Even after the enzyme treatment we weren’t seeing that improve as we’d hoped. The common thread from the onset of that problem was chicken protein in the foods we tried. I switched him 10 days ago to the lamb variety of TOTW (the other ingredients were common) and the runny, goopy and weeping eyes have vastly improved. Pretty sure he’s got a chicken allergy. Hopefully we’ve licked this problem.

So far so good... great actually.

WOW!!!! You are doing a FANTASTIC job with Mikko..... and i have to hand it to you..... we just LOVE hearing from well-informed puppy parents......it's obvious you are doing your own research. Good job!

I suspect you are probably right that there may be an issue with chicken for Mikko.... it appears that that is a common if not allergy then sensitivity in many dogs, probably cause they are so inundated with chicken in everything.....

Keep up the fabulous job and looking forward to your next report... it is so nice to hear good stories!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

So glad to hear the good report! You are doing a great job with Mikko. Many dogs take much longer to stabilize and longer to decide which food they like LOL. You hit the jackpot in both areas. Thanks for writing. We love hearing success stories. Keep us posted on how he is doing.
