RUNNY NOSE SINCE STARTING PANCREPLUS

Post by DLadon » 23 Apr 2020, 09:19

Hello, My pom started taking 1/2 tsp daily of the pancreplus powder a couple weeks ago. His poop has improved but he now has stuffy, runny and rough nose. Could this be because of the powder? His skin is also bright pink on his hind legs and belly. Was wondering if it could be food allergies or some other allergy that I need to have checked. I do.plan on doing the food allergy test.
Thanks,

Good morning. Are you using the 1 level teaspoon enzyme to 1 cup kibble ratio? My Mick got 1/3 teaspoon enzyme per 1/3 cup kibble each day.
Are you mixing well and letting it incubate 15 to 20 mins before serving?
After your pup eats wipe snout with clean wet towel to make sure no enzyme is on there. Also try feeding on a flat plate.
Does your dog have seasonal allergy? I suppose the pink skin could indicate allergy alright. Not sure if it might be the food, the porcine enzyme, or just the season?

It does sounds like this could be an allergy or maybe something else. Yes dogs can be allergic to pork (and the enzymes are pork derived)... but it is extremely rare... and usually it displays with loose stools or even vomiting.... but if there is skin redness, runny nose, although i guess this could be an enzyme allergy, i personally would have the vet examine him.... as maybe it is a doggie virus of sorts. To-date i have never heard of a runny nose caused by the enzymes..... red/sore nose, yes, from the caustic properties of the enzymes, but not a runny nose.... HOWEVER.... after 12 years of dealing with EPI, i have also learned never to say never................

Jill asked some real good questions... about how you are preparing the food... that also may be a consideration, if not allowed to incubate, or if not enough moisture is in the food to decrease the caustic properties of the enzymes....
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Hi and welcome to our EPI family. It sounds like allergies to me although it could always be something else. My GSD is plagued with food and seasonal allergies and right now he and I are both suffering as everything is blooming - especially the weeds. I'm not sure how old your dog is but have you ever noticed the same thing around this time of year? Also wondering if you changed foods recently? When my boy was first diagnosed I switched his food to meet the EPI requirements - he started itching like CRAZY - lots of hot spots, etc. - turns out the food I switched him to had a few ingredients he was allergic to.

If you suspect food sensitivities I highly recommend the NutriScan Food Sensitivity test - I did it and when I switched to a food that did not contain ingredients he tested sensitive to the itching stopped. Then a few months later in Spring he started again, I had him tested for environmental allergies and yep he was allergic to everything just like his mommy LOL.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

Thanks to all for the info. I think it may be seasonal allergies as well, but will have vet check my little boy out.
