Phantom's DNA results!

Post by TaylorN » 23 Jan 2021, 21:01

When I adopted Phantom, there were lots of theories as to why he has a curly tail and white toes! I purchased and submitted a wisdom panel essential DNA test. First, I will post photos of Phantom. Please note: these were taken when he was 51 lbs or so. He has now hit 60! :D

And now the results! I will say, the chow chow surprised me! I live in Texas and have only seen one my entire life of working in the animal industry.

Phantom does have one hind dew claw, and my vet said it may be from a Great Pyrenees ancestor. How funny!

What about these results surprised you? What didn't? I'd love to know!

WOW! I am impressed with the Dutch SHeperd genetics.... they are AWESOME but you don't see many of them nowadays...............
very cool!

Phantom is very handsome!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

that is SO interesting

whatever he is, he is beautiful, and so are you for all you have done

I wondered about the tail, never noticed the feet, and the Chow influence would make the tail curl, and the big head would be from the hound , Pyrenees, which are beautiful dogs, so.......

Chows are not masively popular over here, but they are all over the place, and VERY expensive, you can pay over £3.000 for a puppy, but then , you can pay considerably more for a GSD , and that is so interesting about the dew claws, had you noticed he had one dew claw ?

vets that are good are amazing, as mine was, he was a vet encycloapedia it just flowed out on any subject, and at length

found this interesting

He is really beautiful! The testing is so cool- I always say my boy probably has Chihuahua in him some where, and really today probably most dogs that are so-called "pure" are actually not - and have something else thrown in. Whatever Phantom is- he is handsome!

Phantom's temperament is quite laid back! I have owned him for 2 months today and thought he may be mellow due to the malnutrition, but he is actually very quiet and calm. It took him a few weeks to play with toys, and he only seems to do so when he's excited over something (like his food incubating!) I have 2 cats and was worried he may chase them, but he was scared of them actually! I think he got popped by a stray cat or two in his former life, LOL. One of my cats keeps her distance and the other likes to rub and love on him. He was fearful of this at first, but now he tolerates it. Maybe someday he'll love it! He definitely likes when I pet him.

Still learning his personality, but that's the gist! He is not dog or people aggressive but will "talk back" and defend if a dog gets in his face. He is trusting of everyone but will "guard the house" for sure. He follows me around and listens to everything around us.

He is soooo well behaved. Since enzymes, we have not had a single accident in the house and he was neutered 2 months ago at several years old. He marks outside all day long but doesn't indoors. Such a smart boy! He listens like a champ and has not torn up a single thing. I can't believe it!

A match made in heaven!

The DNA results, and the fact that this can be done, is so cool. What company did you use?

Pam & Tucker
Tucker was a shepherd mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Diane's Enzymes 4 t/day, B12 1 capsule/day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/day. Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 4 c/day. 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma Nov. 2023. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Now there's Nina. 5 year old GSD. TLI 1.0 B12 323. We are still tweaking her routine, and getting lots of help from the forum. She is klutzy and goofy, and we love her dearly, too.

I suspected Chow with the curly tail - the Great Pyr surprised me until I read his behavior characteristics. He's absolutely adorable.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
