Oh Wow, Teila. This is all over my head, but you are both in my thoughts. Please keep posting....we've become so invested in Ziggy's story. Can't wait to hear it's all been figured out & Ziggy's on the road to recovery. ---- Pam
Tucker was a shepherd mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Diane's Enzymes 4 t/day, B12 1 capsule/day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/day. Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 4 c/day. 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma Nov. 2023. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Now there's Nina. 5 year old GSD. TLI 1.0 B12 323. We are still tweaking her routine, and getting lots of help from the forum. She is klutzy and goofy, and we love her dearly, too.

Thank you Pam!

I will definitely keep you updated. You never know, it might also help someone else going down the same path in the future.

So, as I basically understand it, the antibiotics Ziggy had as a tiny baby for a ?chest infection could have immunosuppressed him, opening the door for these top shelf super-organisms to move in and flourish. These organisms produce a toxin, which Ziggy has high levels of, causing enteritis. Also, any change in diet or stress can trigger a reaction/flare.

I do think the B12 injections have helped him to feel better and as he is growing and very slowly gaining weight, I think that he is maybe increasingly able to cope with the toxin load; however, of course, we need to 'fix' this.

It was with great apprehension, but on the Vet's advice due to the negative EPI result, that I stopped the Creon yesterday. Ziggy has not had Creon for his last two meals and so far, so good, poops are still okay!

Tomorrow, we pick up his script for Erythromycin and if it has arrived, switch him from B12 injections to oral B12 with a probiotic onboard. Also, gradually switch him from the existing kibble to a sensitive gut kibble.

He is definitely perking up and fingers crossed for good news when he hops on the scales tomorrow and further improvement on the antibiotics!
Warm Regards
Teila & Ziggy
